ZR1 Sets Laguna Seca Record(Dec 20, 2012)If you guys haven't seen the mt article for yourselves, check it out. 60-80 treadwear cup tires on both and vette was 125k, viper like $142k
ZR1 Sets Laguna Seca Record(Dec 20, 2012)Both are amazing but for $125-$140k (as tested prices) I'd buy a used ford gt, put 60-80 treadwear cup tires on it and hellion performances tt kit. 9-1200hp easily, and plenty of stick to go toes with these cars.
Again though these are awesome
ZR1 Sets Laguna Seca Record(Dec 20, 2012)This car is beautiful in person, I would love to see modern Verizon's of the 98-2002 head lights integrated into the mid cycle face lift/trim change though
ZR1 Sets Laguna Seca Record(Dec 20, 2012)It's a bad pic because its too zoomed in in a bad angle and makes the car look like a waterbuffallo.
ZR1 Sets Laguna Seca Record(Dec 20, 2012)If somebody is ready to say some smart ass thing like "you think tires will shave 2 whole seconds" just stop now and don't because you obviously don't know much about cars and driver confidence with high grip tires.
*within 1-2.5 seconds
ZR1 Sets Laguna Seca Record(Dec 20, 2012)I like the vipers look, but the zr1 is not ugly by any means. It's just lost its veil of newness so it doesn't hold my attention. I can't afford either car, but both are incredible.
ZR1 Sets Laguna Seca Record(Dec 20, 2012)would probably only be 1-1.25 second slower, not 3-5 seconds slower like the lap times suggest.
Zl1's and gt500's run 1:38.xx's on goodyears. With these tires, they'd be in the 1:36's easy, and only 3 seconds of purebred race chassis like these.
ZR1 Sets Laguna Seca Record(Dec 20, 2012)The viper had 80 treadwear tires on, perilli p zero corsa's,
But the vette had Michelin pilot sport cups on which are just 60 treadwear.
Knowing this, the times while awesome are much less spectacular.
R8's and 458's with similar tires
Acura ILX Headed for Emergency Refresh(Dec 18, 2012)In 0-60, but that's because the verano turbo has much more torque and is harder to launch being ff as well. From a roll, the verano is quicker, especially in anything but high rpm/wrapped out gear. Free way passing doesn't need downshifts in the ver
Acura ILX Headed for Emergency Refresh(Dec 18, 2012)because its a Japanese based car though. Go drive both. The gs even has 3 stage shocks and viscous diff, I can literally rotate the back end into a 30* drift, floor the car wheels opposite lock, and it corrects and powers out. No si does so.
Acura ILX Headed for Emergency Refresh(Dec 18, 2012)Gs is leagues better than other cars in its segment. By leaps and bounds. I buy value not brands, I have owned/own infiniti's, ms6 mazda's, gm's, fords, etc, I didn't buy the Buick just because it has an American badge. I think you like the ilx only
Acura ILX Headed for Emergency Refresh(Dec 18, 2012)The thing they did wrong bringing it here was pegging fwd into it when it's available awd in Germany. But now gm is talking about bringing the awd/turbo 5 cylinder over which makes 322hp.
I'll probably trade mine in on one because otherwise the
Acura ILX Headed for Emergency Refresh(Dec 18, 2012) 60-0. Read the reviews for the ilx, the chassis feels oddly sprung and spongy because they didn't go as aggressive as the civic si, the regal gs is essentially a vauxaull Insignia which is an incredible performer in Germany.
Acura ILX Headed for Emergency Refresh(Dec 18, 2012)Matt, you should drive both. I drove both as well as many others and decided on the gs because a tune alone with cai and e cutout will pick up 75+whp for around $900. But more so the smooth ride and awesome handling. .93g on a skid pad stock, 105ft
Acura ILX Headed for Emergency Refresh(Dec 17, 2012)I don't get how this idea was supposed to work, body panels and interior tweaks but everything else a civic? Um this led Detroit to certain problems through the 90's.
Acura ILX Headed for Emergency Refresh(Dec 17, 2012)This vtec mill could be so much more with a factory snail, like a t2, just small but well ratio'd to make 265-280hp. It would dramatically help torque, and freeway pull in high gears. I bet it would add some soul to the car and win buyers
Acura ILX Headed for Emergency Refresh(Dec 17, 2012)Ya awd on cars like this would be great. I guess I'm an odd ball, I bought my 12 regal gs with the 6spd because I wanted to drive it. I suppose I'm a small demographic according to Acura's findings. Maybe 270hp is more fun than 201, I bet that's it
Acura ILX Headed for Emergency Refresh(Dec 17, 2012)The ILX needs more substance I my opinion, it's kinda what Buick was in the 90's, like a good but essentially rebadged entry level car. Some soul would help it sell
Acura ILX Headed for Emergency Refresh(Dec 17, 2012)It was brand new but used at an autoshow and had a few scratches, I got it in late summer when they were dying to unload it before holiday shoppers low balled them knowing it would soon be a year old and still on the lot. Chip, cai and dyno tune soon
Acura ILX Headed for Emergency Refresh(Dec 17, 2012)I love my 12 regal gs, great daily driver and it gets about 24mpg on my driving cycle which is some highway and mainly city.
I think Acura isn't selling well because of the engine choice and mediocre dynamics.
I got my gs for $31,xxx with 314mi
Shelby GT500 Gets Lambo Doors(Dec 16, 2012)The2013 gt500 obliterated m3's and c63's.
M cars are well balanced and amazing but the gt500 with track packs is much more capable.
I know you mentioned seats, but they are such different cars that its easy to see BMW=comfort/quick gt500=fast
Shelby GT500 Gets Lambo Doors(Dec 16, 2012)Very true, but they also are much much much much slower. A $30k gt with the brembo package was .09 seconds off a $70,000 m3 csl around streets of willow in motortrends comparison test, the vids on YouTube.
This gt500 was 1.5 seconds faster than gt
Corvette ZX-1 by Bennett(Dec 16, 2012)But 5-8 second cars could easily run tuning software to launch with 20+ psi and fully spool by the 60ft mark, it's just more complicated but it'd be faster with less boost.
For street cars, centrifugals butcher low end torque way too much
Corvette ZX-1 by Bennett(Dec 16, 2012)Brady prochargers are great for drag racing but twins are much torquier on the street, and need less boost. Turbos will surpass parasitic blowers as the drag racers choice soon enough in all but outlaw funny car where there's not any time for spool
Corvette ZX-1 by Bennett(Dec 16, 2012)Criminals would always be running from it....to go vomit. It's batmans biggest bad guy catching trick, make em sick so they are easy to get
DMC Unveils LP900 SV Aventador(Dec 16, 2012)Now 1700hp in a 25.2 spec certified tube chassis on 29-32" x 15" slicks with skinnies, 2000-2400lbs, and a legitimate pit crew with weekly tear downs will run 6.70-6.40 easily in optimal tune/conditions at 190-205 but in a street car it'll just spin
DMC Unveils LP900 SV Aventador(Dec 16, 2012)valves, rocker arms, everything would need inspection after a few hundred angry miles. Tear down would be constant, too much maintenance, an it's useless power. You might run a 7.9 once until you snap axels or switch to a solid, just useless power
DMC Unveils LP900 SV Aventador(Dec 16, 2012)Probably like .700" lift with 303/295 and 25* of timing on mandatory 116 octane with at least 40psi of boost on a huge procharger or at least 30psi on twin 81/74's. the rotating assembly would go on strike every 300 angry miles and bearings, rings
DMC Unveils LP900 SV Aventador(Dec 16, 2012)A built ls motor for 1700hp will have terrible drivability and little torque under 3,000rpms, as well as a tall 4,000rpm stall in the mandatory auto (no manual would last 3 runs in a street car at 3100lbs) and the cam would just be insane
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 16, 2012)Jesse one is obviously whp (the Germans) and the other is flywheel hp. In a race, they'd be very close
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 16, 2012)David, I'll bet ya 3 cheeseburgers, 2 Soda's and an acknowledgment of mistaken assertion that I'm right. No harm/foul but I'm sure of it
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 16, 2012)the rsx-s can hit 215-235whp pretty easy and then the weight difference really shines.
But all that said, stock they aren't 14 second cars like your caddy, your probably putting 3 cars on him now from 50-120, nice work
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 16, 2012)Your cts is a great performer and very fun car, they make about 240whp through the automatic to the wheels which is great power for 3800#'s. The rsx-s makes 175whp but is only 2750#'s and full exhaust drops another 50#'s+. With the bolt on gains
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 16, 2012)Oh ya jimmy, definitely didn't peg ya as a hooligan or the fast/furious type so no worries. But I was pretty serious though, bolt on rsx's with hondata/ecu controller ($400+) pick up 40-60whp depending on the extent of the mods.
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 16, 2012)Obviously it being a caddy, they didn't throw some absurd .600" lift 284/282 cam in it which could net 90whp on its own but kill all torque below 4,000 rpms.
They probably used a mild cam (40hp) and 8-10 psi on the 2.3L sc (hypereutonic internals)
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 16, 2012)The 2.3 sc on the gt500 5.8 (.4L smaller) is good to 800whp+ with full bolt ons, smaller pulleys and cams, the Lsa and ls9 (when equipped with this supercharger, 2.3L) make 750whp easily with bolt ons and smaller pulleys. Head flow limits the ls mill
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 16, 2012)make up the rest of the 80 other horses. The cam would be good for 40hp on its own depending on the grind, duration, overlap and other properties.
It has nothing to do with super light tune for drivability nor the 2.3 sc being small.
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 16, 2012)It's most likely what I pointed out, it's a whp figure that they obtained, not flywheel. That would signify a ~140whp gain which is right on for the mods listed. The supercharger swap alone is worth 60hp at equal boost, cams, exhaust, cai, tune
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 16, 2012)Brady, nice assertion but that's not the case, sorry.
Corry, upping peak boost or not will have nothing to do with drivability on an sc car with this particular supercharger. Running a rich or lean tune won't either, good assertion but that's not it
Japanese Tuning Icons Part 2: Toyota Altezza/Lexus IS 300(Dec 15, 2012)Go take a rwd car out and drive like a hooligan, then get good at it and link hooligan shenanigans in unison around obstacles sideways faster and faster.
It's great fun. Great fun, and very skill based/technical/driver feel.
Watch ken block vids
GT500 Drags C63 AMG on the Strip(Dec 15, 2012)+7mph faster even with a clueless driver launching and shifting the cobra crappy is a huge win. If I piloted the cobra, used launch control, and powershifted, I could probably pick up 5-7mph on the big end. This driver did lousy.
+12-14mph is 200hp
GT500 Drags C63 AMG on the Strip(Dec 15, 2012)But slower in everyway and more expensive. The badge is nicer aa is the interior though so you've got a point about brand image and interior but for performance and bang for the buck, the Shelby back hands the c63
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 15, 2012)This is also the same problem with the Shelby super snake mustang cobras, short gearing and street tires is nice for putting around in stop/go traffic because a short 1st gear is easier to friction point but its terrible for spacing power for traction
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 15, 2012)115, 145, 180, 225 or so 1-6th which means its obviously geared much shorter and will have that much more power on hand in lower gears that it already is burdened with getting to the ground on street tires. I run nt05rs which are a grippy drag radial
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 15, 2012)1000hp is tons more than it sounds like. My own car makes 1xxxwhp on high boost and its useless below 70mph even on 28" drag radials and super tall gearing, my 1st goes to 65, 2nd 100, 3rd 140, 4th 180, 5th ? 6th?
I bet the 1000hp caddy hits 55, 80
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 15, 2012)It's called traction guys. 1000hp with a supercharged powerband is pretty much an on off switch to melt the tires below 80 mph, and all things told, the 1000hp car can probably easily roast it's tires with just a clutch drop above 80mph.
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 15, 2012)Bolt on mod cts-v's with 550whp have run low 11's at 125+ on slicks, and cts-v's with 625whp have clicked off easy 10's at 130+. This car make 300whp more than those mid 10 cts-v's so it should easily run 9's assuming even ok traction
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 15, 2012)On slicks I bet it's well under 3 seconds. This car probably also goes from 60-120 in about 3.5 seconds. It should run 9's in the 1/4 mile on slicks around 145-150 so 7-8 seconds 0-120 is very realistic.
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 15, 2012)It's nice, the coupes have never called out to me though. I love the 4 drs.
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 15, 2012)Haha, 306hp vs 200 though, but nice man, these are great cars.
Watch out though, if your buddy just does header back exhaust and a cold air intake with a chip, he'll pull on ya
Top Tuned Cadillacs(Dec 15, 2012)Wait wait wait, they swapped cams, a blower, did a dyno tune and only better 50hp? That's gotta be at the wheels.
Pulley and intake add 50hp to these cars, like 40whp.
Stock these make 475whp so I could see all those mods at minimum making 616whp
Japanese Tuning Icons Part 2: Toyota Altezza/Lexus IS 300(Dec 15, 2012)Matt, do you own the sweet supra in your profile pic? If so nice, what trim turbo are you running and m6 I'm guessing so how's the spool, my buddy's hit ok after 5500 with a 72 but screamed from 7500-8500 when it fully spooled. Now it hits at 6k well
Japanese Tuning Icons Part 2: Toyota Altezza/Lexus IS 300(Dec 15, 2012)If its turbo, it'll be much faster with the auto. 2jz's make decent low end torque but they are kinda laggy with big singles, the autos keep them better spooled and much more responsive. My buddy's 2jz is much faster as an auto now, more traction too
Japanese Tuning Icons Part 2: Toyota Altezza/Lexus IS 300(Dec 15, 2012)I tone it down by removing the wing, all flat black, then building the 2jz to handle a single 60 with about 700whp and call it a day. Evo's are nice but rwd is more enjoyable when you wanna go sideways and do real drifting
Japanese Tuning Icons Part 2: Toyota Altezza/Lexus IS 300(Dec 15, 2012)2jz's have great potential, you can hit 600hp on a completely stock long block.
Change the head gaskets and studs and they'll handle 750+ for a good while. Great for a 3.0 mill, lots of torque too because of it being an inline
Shelby GT500 Gets Lambo Doors(Dec 15, 2012)After, I can appreciate retro but the materials and gaps aren't as good as the c63, better than the gen 5 camaro IMO but its not like muscle cars are really about super spiffy awesome interiors anyways
Shelby GT500 Gets Lambo Doors(Dec 15, 2012)True but with the earl release of the 2013's late summer, the 2012's are more like 2011's.
It's be nice if models were actually released with the proper model year designation because most cars are really miss represented.
This one has 550hp
DMC Unveils LP900 SV Aventador(Dec 15, 2012)Not redoing heads and cams on a lambo plus exhaust and custom intake manifold and trimmings/supporting mods for €25,000, I wanna see if its forced induction otherwise I doubt the 900hp claim but even stock these are plent fast so it's still cool
DMC Unveils LP900 SV Aventador(Dec 15, 2012)You can bov a centrifugal, I don't really buy the post but it can be done. It's not my gig to go around calling people liars, I just point out stuff.
You can also wastegate a centrifugal and pulley it higher then limit boost but belt slip/drag.
DMC Unveils LP900 SV Aventador(Dec 15, 2012)~140hp per liter naturally aspirated? Sorry but without insane cam timing, duration and .650" lift, that'll never happen. I'd guess 750hp even with those mods, variable runner length manifolds don't add 200hp
DMC Unveils LP900 SV Aventador(Dec 15, 2012)Anthony, you'll need a new bottom end to get to 800whp and you'll need at least that plus trans and drivetrain mods to keep up/shift fast enough with a 900hp aventador. You'd probably get walked by a stock aventador assuming you weren't lying
Corvette ZX-1 by Bennett(Dec 15, 2012)Bad tunes are bad tunes, I even knock the Shelby super snakes and 1000's because it doesn't take $200,000 to make 1000hp with a modular, so damn over priced.
I won't go to the extent of bashing ol Colby that hard but he does have vette blinders
Shelby GT500 Gets Lambo Doors(Dec 15, 2012)Ya I only get complaints about my 03's interior from girls that aren't into cars, the next time I scoop them I pull up in the gs or the fx and they quiet right up. Some girls are too materialistic. Most aren't buy some take the cake.
GT500 Drags C63 AMG on the Strip(Dec 15, 2012)I'm pretty sure Jesse Lang and the edmunds crew partners up with motortrend to do motortrends car of the year events but I could be wrong, she's in the videos on both edmunds and motortrend though so I'm guessing very valid joint venture
GT500 Drags C63 AMG on the Strip(Dec 15, 2012)Edmonds inside line is pretty credible and par for the league, at least they are on the thousands of other automotive tests and comparison's they do.
Corvette ZX-1 by Bennett(Dec 15, 2012)Nice wheels, the stock zr1 is better. I'd drive a stock 436hp c6 fully loaded (m6 obviously) over this though, power be damned I'd just get depressed everytime I parked somewhere and got ridiculed.
Corvette ZX-1 by Bennett(Dec 15, 2012)Is the rear bumper photoshopped on? It seems like a video game, all flat and falsely lit. Maybe my eyes aren't seeing it right
Corvette ZX-1 by Bennett(Dec 15, 2012)Um, my z06 widebody in need for speed looked kinda like this when I was 15... Um nice I guess, but sorry I don't appreciate it in real life, and only did it in the game because it helped handling.
