C8 Corvette Coming Early(Apr 01, 2013)I think April 1st is a good day to start shopping for a new car news app on iTunes. This one has apparently lost all intention of maintaining its reputation as a credible news source.
Volkswagen to Reinvent the Scirocco(Apr 01, 2013)They don't have to have an existing rwd platform, just adapt the Golf R's awd system to rwd by disabling the front diff. Subaru guys do this all the time by welding the center diff and ditching the front half shafts
Top 5 German Pocket Rockets(Mar 22, 2013)Those are similar to a rally wheel, designed to keep gravel out of the important bits of the braking system. OZ makes a wheel like this and a lot of people use them for stage rally.. Perfect for this car.
The Ring is Up For Sale(Mar 21, 2013)A 13 mile F1 course? Spa is only like 9 miles... And isn't part of the Nordschleife a public road? But I guess that's true of a few other Gran Prix circuits too.
Famous Races: Targa Florio(Mar 21, 2013)The 904 is my absolute favorite car on earth....I would happily settle for Beck a replica though
Agera Faster than LaFerrari, P1?(Mar 21, 2013)Those /Drive videos about K-segg have me convinced this guy is an obsessive genius. The servo-controlled valve train they are developing is going to revolutionize engine construction.
Porsche GT3 RS Coming Next Year(Mar 19, 2013)Porsche is doing this because the ugly truth is that most people either don't know how to, or prefer not to drive a manual. They can sell a lot more cars if they make the switch.
Porsche GT3 RS Coming Next Year(Mar 19, 2013)I highly doubt that the people on here that are praising the PDK technology so vehemently have ever compared the two on the track. The shifts are faster, but you have to have 3 pedals to properly feed in the power on a technical road course.
Range Rover Sport Leaks Early(Mar 14, 2013)Well my 300tdi Defender starts first click every time, and my friend's P38 has 150k miles and is still chugging along after 16 years. (To be fair though, he replaced the air suspension with coils) With proper maintenance, you can have a good experience
Almost Sports Cars: Pontiac Sunfire(Mar 14, 2013)Man you guys are a tough crowd. It's just the show-car scene. It's not for everybody, it's certainly not for me, but it's someone's hobby that they enjoy. To each his own..
Range Rover Sport Leaks Early(Mar 14, 2013)Yeah. Our market is completely isolated in the US do to the EPA. Ironically though, we only have petrol v8s. If we want a diesel, it has to be more than 25yo and imported from abroad.
Range Rover Sport Leaks Early(Mar 14, 2013)@Jason Wrong. The Range Rover Sport actually has actually retained its value in the U.S. extremely well since it was launched here in '06. In fact the '06 models are still going for nearly $20k, even with over 100k miles.
Hennessey's Own Ford Focus ST(Mar 09, 2013)Base boxster, but I've autoXed and rallyXed a FWD Impreza for the last two years and I firmly believe that you can still have fun and learn a lot about car control in a fwd car.
Hennessey's Own Ford Focus ST(Mar 08, 2013)And auto cross, as well as aggressive cornering on mountain roads. I personally drive a mid-engine rwd car, but I have no doubts that this thing would be a blast to drive.
Hennessey's Own Ford Focus ST(Mar 08, 2013)This car really doesn't have much torque steer. It has a torque vectoring system in the front diff that Ford designed to handle 300hp. I love Subaru but ford has built a legit alternative to the WRX with good mpg. FWD is great for tight road courses
Villa d'Este Lines Up the Classics(Mar 08, 2013)I think I might prefer to own a replica of this car rather than the real thing. I would be too nervous driving a $40-50M car to be able to enjoy it..
Porsche Releases 911 GT3 in Geneva(Mar 05, 2013)The gt3 rs will have a manual, but it will be a 7-speed. They are not going to develop the gearboxes separately anymore. Want a manual? You get a manual version of the PDK.
The GranTurismo's Evolving Snout(Mar 01, 2013)Aiden is right. When someone says "rims" and they actually mean wheels, you have to assume they don't know what they're talking about. Like when someone says the f-word or "like" four times in a sentence and you have to assume they're an idiot.
Porsche Carrera GT by Zagato(Feb 26, 2013)I also can't stand when people refer to wheels as "rims." The rim only exists as a separate component in a 2 or 3-piece wheel construction. Also, this roofline is very well done.
BMW to Stick with RWD and Manuals(Feb 22, 2013)The m5 is available with a manual in the US only, because BMW tried to introduce the 10cyl M5 with no manual option a few years ago and long-time customers in the US refused to order them.
Bentley Flying Spur Pops Up Early(Feb 20, 2013)They do share a platform as well as quite a few components with the Phaeton. That's probably a good thing. The Phaeton was seriously over-engineered.
Next Focus RS Coming in 2015(Feb 06, 2013)There shouldn't be much torque steer with the torque-vectoring front diff, but it would be nice if it was awd like the old one.
Updated 370Z Nismo Unveiled(Jan 26, 2013)3300lbs is a lot for a car that's supposed to be a track toy. Why can't they put the nismo version on a diet?
Porsche 911 Given a Ducktail By Misha Designs(Jan 20, 2013)This is my favorite look on a WC 911. The RUF RGT 996 had this with wide body flares w/ exposed rivets, and the 997 Sport Classic has the same with "double bubble" roof. Which combo do you guys prefer?
Famously Unsafe: Geo Storm(Jan 16, 2013)Everytime I go to the track, something with a rotary engine breaks. Just saying. Also, at 2200lbs with 140hp, I don't really see the problem with this car's performance...
Acura NSX Concept Opens its Doors(Jan 16, 2013)It's funny that Porsche originally designed this up sloping console for the CGT to raise the position of the shifter similarly to a race car...... And now it's being done on cars with no console shifter..
2014 Cadillac ELR Breaks Cover(Jan 15, 2013)Why would you want a Prius with it's puny 105 lb ft of torque, when you can have this with nearly 300?
I cannot even comprehend that sort of logic.
Radical Reveals RXC at Autosport(Jan 15, 2013)It's not the car that will be expensive, it's the private paddock garage at Spring Mountain you will need to keep it in....
Chevy Unveils C7 Corvette Stingray(Jan 14, 2013)I love the driving characteristics of the corvette, but my number one complaint in the past has been chassis stiffness. It's good to see Chevy taking steps to address this. This is going to be a great driver's car.
Lexus Reveals New IS(Jan 10, 2013)I second that Ethan. The first gen is300 with a 2jz n/a and a manual was a dream to drive.
Mercedes to Introduce New C-Class in 2014(Jan 04, 2013)Most (non-AMG) Mercedes are soft sprung, very heavy for their size, lack manual transmission options, have lots of wood and chrome interior trim, and do a better job of soaking up bumps than carving up mountain roads. Mercedes= old person's car
Audi Targets McLaren with Diesel Supercar(Dec 16, 2012)I second Colby and Shane on this one. Audi has been dominating LeMans for several years with their TDI program. If they decide to apply that expertise to road cars, the result will likely be phenomenal. Expect MASSIVE torque.
Volkswagen Releases Polo R WRC(Dec 09, 2012)The last two SCCA RallyX events I drove in here in SoCal completely sold out. There were people driving in from AZ, trying to get points towards x games.
Volkswagen Releases Polo R WRC(Dec 09, 2012)VW doesn't care of you buy one. It's a homologation car. They have to make a limited number so the FIA will let them race. Rally isn't big in the US, but rally cross is blowing up. Especially on a local level.
Corvette GT2 on ADV.1 Wheels(Nov 30, 2012)Sorry Colby, I know you know a lot about vettes, but this thing is 1.5" wider than even a zr1. It's subtle though.
Jeep Giving Grand Cherokee a Facelift(Nov 30, 2012)Chrysler can't afford to completely re-engineer every new generation from the ground up, but they're doing a good job staying relevant. Look at the current Charger/300c, it's built on the Mercedes w211 platform that was designed in 1993.
Jeep Giving Grand Cherokee a Facelift(Nov 30, 2012)This is a Mercedes ML platform, built in Detroit, with a choice of Fiat or Mopar power. The only thing "American" about this vehicle is the where it is manufactured unless you get it with a hemi. It's a great vehicle for the money though.
Porsche Reveals New Cayman in LA(Nov 29, 2012)Build cost is commensurate to volume. With the exception of the UK, Porsche sells quite a few more Boxsters than Caymans. If production volumes were the same though, I'd have to guess the cayman would be cheaper to build.
Porsche Reveals New Cayman in LA(Nov 29, 2012)911, but I do think this new model is way better looking than any other Porsche and its something I could actually aspire to own.
Porsche Reveals New Cayman in LA(Nov 29, 2012)Wow. People really get upset. The bottom line is the 458 isn't even on my radar. I don't buy sports cars that don't have three pedals. A new 911 isn't in my price range either. I have been looking at the 996tt. I prob won't buy a cayman over the the
Ferrari's V8: Mondial(Nov 28, 2012)I have a love/hate relationship with the Mondial 3.2. I love the coupe and HATE the cabriolet. However, because they shared an engine with the 328, the Mondial 3.2s are very reliable and one of the few
Ferraris you can work on yourself provided you have a lift.
Kia to Launch Rear-Drive Coupe?(Nov 25, 2012)I'm all for more RWD options from lower priced auto makers, but if they want to build a competitor for the mx5 or brz/frs using genesis underpinnings they are going to have to do something about the curb weight. Genesis coupe 2.0t is chunky(3300lbs)
Qatari Prince Goes for Gold with Green Aventador(Nov 18, 2012)They read the article, they're just questioning the accuracy of seemingly paradoxical claim....and they're right. Top speed cannot be increased by adding a big wing, only cornering speed. Top speed was probably increased by adding power.
For Guys Like Us(Nov 03, 2012).. And I'm not sure if you've been to the ring, but it is a very high speed track that is much longer than a typical road course and is not a good comparison point when discussing handling. A 638 hp car like a zr1 has a definite advantage there.
For Guys Like Us(Nov 03, 2012)@Miguel. Most of your points are valid, but the weight distribution in a 911 is an advantage in racing. In a FR layout, 50/50 is best, but in a rear engine car like the 911 all of that weight over the rear wheels gives traction out of the corners.
1940 Ford Body Released at SEMA(Nov 03, 2012)Very cool. I like that hood is drilled for the original bright work. You gotta love the sound of an original flathead v8 too.
Bugatti Developing 1600HP Super Veyron?(Oct 29, 2012)I would never want this car or any other Veyron. If it was given to me, I'd sell it immediately. $40,000 for a set of tires that lasts 2500 miles, $20,000 for a routine service if there are no issues, and <10mpg. Not interested.
5 Four-Seat Lamborghinis(Oct 24, 2012)I know this article is a few days old, but I am still stunned that the 400GT did not make this list. I mean, really?
Porsche Announces Platinum Edition Panamera(Oct 19, 2012)What a rude comment. I'm sure you thought it was funny, but it contributed nothing of value to the discussion.
I think the trunk lines could have been a little more attractive but it would sacrifice practicality like in the Rapide.
Cadillac ELR Headed for Production(Oct 17, 2012)I doubt it will be that slow. The Volt has a considerable amount of torque, 273 lb ft I think from 0 rpm. The problem is that it is tuned for maximum efficiency. The 0-60 time is 8.5 sec, but it could probably be tuned to do it in half that time...
Entry Level Exotics: Lamborghini Gallardo(Oct 16, 2012)The Balboni is hands down my favorite Lamborghini. I would love to drive one, even if just for a couple of hot laps. With only 250 of them I'll probably never get the chance though. Audi should make a RWD version of this chassis too.
Entry Level Exotics: Porsche Boxster(Oct 16, 2012)Haha. Ok. I get it. Not everyone is into racing. I'll be at the track this weekend however, checking out all the other grossly underpowered cars and trying not to post slower lap times than my wife :-/
Entry Level Exotics: Porsche Boxster(Oct 15, 2012)@Devin You're right.... I am an idiot. Silly me for preferring a sports car that's lighter, more reliable, and handles better on a track over one with more horsepower.
Entry Level Exotics: Porsche Boxster(Oct 14, 2012)The flat six design is based on the original Volkswagen flat four. The reason Porsche stayed with the design in all their rear and mid-engined cars was due to the lower center of gravity, which dramatically improves handling.
Entry Level Exotics: Porsche Boxster(Oct 14, 2012)400 hp at the limit and lift-off oversteers into a wall. Meanwhile guys in Boxsters, Miatas, Elises, and STIs beat on their cars all day and then drive them home.
Entry Level Exotics: Porsche Boxster(Oct 14, 2012)I always see the Mustang and Camaro guys on here commenting about how their cars are just as fast or faster for less money blah blah blah. Then I go to the track and see these cars DNF after 1/2 a day to to absurd tire wear or somebody can't manage..
Performance AWD: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution(Oct 02, 2012)The STIs do better at my local RallyX. I think it has to do with lower center of gravity and overall weight on technical courses. However, an Evo X is a much more attractive car than 3rd gen Impreza (08-11)
Performance AWD: Subaru WRX STI(Oct 01, 2012)This is Verdier's car. The Tanaka team ran a rwd Impreza too. They're super easy to convert, (just weld the center diff) but these cars have Nissan rear diffs and custom sub-frames because the stock rear can't handle the power.
Off-Road Icons: Volkswagen Touareg(Jul 30, 2012)@Patrick Wrong. It's because the Wrangler does not have a 1)electronic center locking diff, 2)comp. controlled 4 wheel abs traction control, 3) 6 in lift at the touch of a button, 4)302 lb/ft torque. Jeeps will eventually have this tech, but not yet.
Off-Road Icons: Volkswagen Touareg(Jul 29, 2012)I've owned 4 Land rovers. I currently own 2 diesel defenders, I've had a discovery and a Range Rover as well. However, my 2005 Touareg v8 was THE MOST CAPABLE off-roader I've ever owned. I easily out handled a friend's wrangler rubicon in that thing
