Ferrari F12 Driver Hits a Wall(May 12, 2013)Reminds me of when I saw some rich retard at uni back his brand new EVO X into another car in the carpark.
Maserati: EVs are "Nonsense"(Apr 24, 2013)Total efficiency using the below approximate values is 21.375% efficiency for the whole cycle. Sorry to get all nerdy haha.
Maserati: EVs are "Nonsense"(Apr 24, 2013)He's talking efficiency Jason. So an IC petrol engine is about 25% efficient. Meanwhile an EV: 40% eff coal power plant, 25% loss in power transmission from the plant to your house, 25% loss in Batt charging, 5% loss from batt to motors. Adds up.
Alpina Preparing 6 Series GC(Apr 21, 2013)I don't think you can buy the M6 in Grand Coupe form. Have to get the 2 door or buy an M5 instead.
Maserati Unveils V6 Sedans in China(Apr 21, 2013)Not all that flash when you consider an early E36 M3 with a 3 litre 6 and no turbo's makes 286HP.
Jaguar Developing 600hp F-Type?(Apr 17, 2013)No chance that a modern Jag will come with a manual, though I'd love to be proved wrong.
5 Failed Auto Revivals(Apr 15, 2013)I think a big part of the problem was that this was an S class underneath, plus they kept the styling of the Mercedes.
At least with the RR Ghost BMW have put a fresh body on the 7 Series chassis.
Top 5 Market Trendsetters(Apr 10, 2013)The Pajero came out in 82 and is generally attribute as the first SUV. Not sure if you guys got it in the US though.
Chrysler Considering 300 Diesel(Apr 08, 2013)6.4 SRT Hemi is the way to go :) tbh though if I was after that sort of car here in Australia I would buy Fords 5.0 S/C Falcon.
She Loves Her Rare E28 M535i(Apr 07, 2013)To be fair Cian, the E39 isn't really that mechanical. It has drive by wire, climate control, electronic tailgate/boot, electronic suspension on many models. I think JC discovered a few of these in Uganda recently too :)
I would still love an E39 M5!
Chrysler Considering 300 Diesel(Apr 07, 2013)Fair call Chris, I was more so comparing to the V8 petrol models. Though I think the new Pentastar V6 is a good performer.
Chrysler Considering 300 Diesel(Apr 06, 2013)The 300 has had a diesel engine option in non-US markets for many years, sells well to the all show no go crowd...you know who you are.
Chevy SS to Base Below $30k?(Mar 03, 2013)Aside from the HSV's, which are hi performance variants of the commodore, there isn't anything else you don't already have.
Mercedes Reveals G63 AMG 6x6(Mar 01, 2013)Australian Army has a few 6x6 G-Wagens. They go near enough anywhere whilst towing a Howitzer haha.
Volkswagen Planning AWD Polo R?(Dec 31, 2012)The Golf R uses a haldex system, which usually requires the fronts to start slipping before power is sent to the rear. When they went from R32 to R they put an electric motor in the centre diff to transfer power in earlier.
GT500 Drags C63 AMG on the Strip(Dec 15, 2012)Either that or i'd put my money on a 5.0 S/C falcon with the 6 speed Tremec, the true blue Aussie coming out in me there haha.
GT500 Drags C63 AMG on the Strip(Dec 15, 2012)Tbh the C63 is no pretender. Though I appreciate the Shelby's supercharged horsepower, it is somewhat of a blunt instrument.
The Shelby is a monster. But the C63 has a sophistication and IRS architecture to back it up.
HSV Celebrates 25 with Special Commodore GTS(Oct 03, 2012)About the same at the current exchange rate. Bear in mind though that cars are more expensive here compared to the US.
HSV Celebrates 25 with Special Commodore GTS(Oct 03, 2012)A second set of injectors and fuel tank allow the engine to run on LPG, available at the pump here in Australia at half the price of Petrol.
Special Gallardo Celebrates 20 Years of Lamborghini in Hong Kong(Jul 05, 2012)I'm guessing you fella's live in the states, cos that pricing is about right. Gallardo is 550k Aussie dollars atm, Aventador is about 850k. Oh and a 911 starts at 208k here,so appreciate the excellent value you guys get. Shame u have to live there ;)
Porsche 911 Evolution: Type 993(Jul 04, 2012)Not to be confused with the Klu Klux Klan I think should be mentioned. Otherwise you wouldn't have been able to buy a black 993!
2013 Porsche 911 Performance Upgrades Announced(Jun 21, 2012)Ah if only it were a linear relationship. Then Bugatti could just add 500hp to the supersport and raise top speed from 430km/hr to 500km/hr.
Be like a Boeing 747 you can use everyday :)
Epic B-List Celebrity Car Crashes(Jun 17, 2012)@Zack American car in this situation = slight dent + all occupants dead because of no crumble zones and resulting blunt force trauma!
Rheinmetall’s Volkswagen Amarok M LMPV Revealed(Jun 17, 2012)It's a new design, Amarok has nothing in common with Colorado or any other utes. Also I would not like to get shot at in this, will take a whole lot more work to make it safe under fire.
Audi Reveals All for 2013 RS4 Avant(Jun 14, 2012)And to be fair if you want torque and economy and aren't to fussed about outright power, buy the 3.0 TDI. Mountains of torque, quiet and comfortable with good economy. The great thing with cars like the A4 is there's a model to suit anyone.
Audi Reveals All for 2013 RS4 Avant(Jun 14, 2012)Because 450bhp is a lot more than 333. On top of that this engine is a masterpiece, revving to 8.5k and sounding beautifull the whole way. The TT V6 may have more torque and no doubt better for lugging the family around, but on a twisty road...?
2014 Chevrolet SS Likely to Have 6.2-liter V8(May 10, 2012)Well Ken it's not an American car, it's Australian. Also I think if offered with the LS3 it'll have to be based on a HSV R8, as the SS-V is currently only made with the 6.0 L98 motor...
2012 Porsche Cayenne GTS Bows Before Beijing(Apr 10, 2012)@Daniel, I doubt that the cars will be any different. Europe pays more because they are taxed more. Also the American market won't pay high prices, so manufacturers try their best to sell as cheap as possible in the US.
Ultra-Rare Vintage Mercedes Seized by German Police(Apr 07, 2012)Not to mention the fact the original owner was more than likely a nazi, given the time, place and circumstance.
On that logic we should give all Nazi descendants back their Berchtesgardene mansion's too!
2013 SRT Viper is Here: First Official Photos and Video(Apr 05, 2012)Just a quick note as this comes up a lot and is the main thing that bothers me, OHV motors don't make more torque than OHC. The viper makes huge torque but that is down to its large capacity, and specifically large piston size.
2013 SRT Viper is Here: First Official Photos and Video(Apr 05, 2012)Hmmm so this 'engineering masterpiece' is still a tarted up truck engine. Why you would bother with sodium filled valves but still leave it with pushrod actuation I will never know?
2012 Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline Debut at the Festival of LXs(Mar 27, 2012)Regardless I like LS series, they're fun and easy. But to call them modern is a bit of a stretch, modern materials, yes. But the design is ancient, Chev small block is the oldest engine design still in production. Good and reliable, but ancient.
2012 Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline Debut at the Festival of LXs(Mar 27, 2012)Low end torque is not due to the OHV design, but to the large capacity of most OHV motors. Case in point: AMG 6208cc V8 in lowest output C63 form produces 600Nm of torque. Standard LS2 (same capacity) = 542Nm
2012 Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline Debut at the Festival of LXs(Mar 27, 2012)Pushrods motors are limited to a 2 valve head. This cannot flow better than a 4/5 valve head other than at very high rpm. But at much above 6000rpm pushrods will bend, unless the are very well engineered and made from very strong and durable material
2012 Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline Debut at the Festival of LXs(Mar 27, 2012)Mikey, I said nothing about one being better, merely about DOHC being more modern and efficient. That is a fact, whereas 'better' is an opinion.
LS series are all the things you say they are, but the design is from
1957.
2012 Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline Debut at the Festival of LXs(Mar 27, 2012)Yeh Mikey, if you haven't noticed it also has 2 Liters more capacity...
With DOHC setup you can have a higher rev limit, with the same power for less capacity.
This is good, cos it means we can still have power, while meeting emissions requirements.
2012 Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline Debut at the Festival of LXs(Mar 27, 2012)Sadly, the V6 is a much more modern motor. I mean, god forbid an American company consider the concept of 'overhead cams' and 'direct injection' on their V8's, except Fords 5.0,that's a good motor
Might as well ask them to include a Flux Capacitor...
Report: Ferrari Planning a V12 Hybrid for the New Enzo(Mar 25, 2012)At the end of the day, if this means we still have V12 ferrari's i don't care.
Any weight gain will be offset by lighter composite body and frame architecture.
This is What a Chinese Gangster Drives(Mar 22, 2012)Clearly a feeble gangster unable to handle the rear drive lariness of a Carrera S. 4S is like having stabilizers on your motorbike.
Report: The New Ferrari Enzo Will Debut This Year(Mar 13, 2012)It's not the same suspension as a caddy, no more than a Boeing 747 uses the same aerodynamics as a Sopwith Camel. Yes the principle is the same, but the application and development is different.
Fiat 500 America Not Coming to America(Feb 23, 2012)As I see it, only an American would want this, being the staunch patriots they are.
So aside from a top gear special back up car they're gonna have a hard time finding European and Asian buyers.
2013 Bentley Mulsanne Mulliner Driving Specification Announced(Feb 23, 2012)Sorry, but what's the point in titanium wheel nuts on a 3 tonne car? It's not gonna make any noticeable difference.
Also, if you want 'lightweight' wheels, try 18's. Its a big Luxo car, all good. Don't dress it up as a racecar.
Ferrari’s 920hp F70 aka the New Enzo(Feb 20, 2012)7.3 liters must make it the largest capacity Ferrari road car yet, not something to take lightly considering current emission legislation.
2012 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Refreshed for Japanese Market(Dec 29, 2011)Here in Aus, the 200 series is sold with the 4.6 petrol V8, or the better option is a twin turbo diesel 4.5 V8 :)
Seems to me that you guys in the US miss out on a lot of good diesel engines?
Homemade Video Debacle: Mustang V6 Driveshaft Failure(Dec 20, 2011)So 2 options here:
1 - Ford's engineers bought their degree's online and hence have no understanding of a safety factor, or
2 - This is a poorly made piece of junk.
Hmmmmm...
Unique of the Week: 1973 Lamborghini Jarama GTS(Dec 18, 2011)If there was something wrong with the car it would have a bigger reputation.
I don't think they sold many and it's massively overshadowed by Miura and Countach.
Lotus Will Build In-House V8 for next Esprit(Nov 22, 2011)To be honest we don't know it'll be N/A. Press release said no turbo's, but lotus have done a lot of supercharging in the past.
