It was much more than just a regular prototype.
Before LaFerrari production got underway, there had to be at least one example to show to exclusive clients and display on the auto show circuit. That example is the LaFerrari prototype, which is really more of a pre-production model. And now it’s heading to auction at RM Sotheby’s Ferrari – "Leggenda E Passione" event in Maranello, Italy on September 9 where it’s expected to bring in somewhere around 1.1 million to 1.3 million Euros. Yes, that’s not much less than what the LaFerrari cost when new back in 2014.

This LaFerrari, chassis number 194925, was produced in late 2012 specifically for the purposes as stated above. It is the first LaFerrari the world saw at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, aside from the private preview events. Following its public debut, it was sent back to the Ferrari factory where it was made available to all LaFerrari buyers, allowing them to see it in the flesh and decide personal customization options. Today, a lightly used LaFerrari coupe goes for around $3.5 million, so you might be thinking this one could be something of a bargain. Here’s the kicker: it’s not homologated for road use. Its future owner will never be able to have it registered.

Therefore, Ferrari recommends it remain stationary for display purposes only. This is the first time it’s being put up for sale, and we have no doubt there’ll be hardcore Ferrari collectors interested. Photos courtesy of RM Auctions.
