Only 799 exist in the world. Actually, better make that 798.
Ferrari only built 799 examples of the F12 tdf, an even more ferocious version of the F12 Berlinetta which was the fastest road car Ferrari ever built at the time before it introduced the 812 Superfast this year. Now there are only 798 surviving examples, because one of them has burnt to a crisp beyond recognition in a devastating fire in Germany. Local media General Anzeiger Bonn reports that the two occupants heard a bang while driving the rare supercar on the autobahn. Soon after, flames erupted at the rear of the car, prompting the driver to pull over.

Luckily, the occupants managed to escape the burning supercar unharmed, which is about the only consolation we can salvage from this upsetting incident. The driver alerted the emergency services as soon as they discovered the fire, but it was too late as the $1 million supercar was already engulfed in flames by the time the fire services arrived to extinguish it. Looking at the burnt out remains, we don’t think they will be able to salvage any parts, sadly. It’s completely and utterly destroyed beyond recognition. After analysing the burnt out remains of the supercar, investigators determined that engine failure was to blame for the fire.

While we’ve seen many reports of Lamborghinis bursting into flames in recent years, this is the first we’ve heard of a modern Ferrari suffering the same fate since the 458 epidemics. The limited edition Ferrari F12 tdf (standing for 'Tour de France') is powered by the same 6.3-liter V12 as its Berlinetta brother tuned to produce 770 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque, and features more aggressive styling and a four-wheel steering system. It was built to honor Ferrari’s multiple wins in the annual Tour de France Automobile sports car race which ran almost every year between 1899 and 1986.
