Italian automaker ATS reveals its first supercar in over 50 years.
After teasing its return to the supercar scene following a 50-year hiatus, Automobili Turismo e Sport has lifted the wraps off its new Ferrari-rivalling GT supercar at the Salon Prive in Oxfordshire, England – and it’s quite a stunner. If you’ve never heard of ATS, the Italian automaker was formed by a group of former Ferrari Formula One technicians in 1962, which spawned its first and only road car, the 2500 GT. Like the original car, AutoExpress reports that production of the new ATS GT will limited to just 12 models for the initial Launch Edition.

Power is provided by a mid-mounted 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine mated to a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox. While ATS hasn’t revealed the engine’s supplier or the car’s total output, it confirmed that the car is currently capable of producing 690 horsepower, but the Italian automaker is aiming for a final output of around 800 hp when development wraps up. As such, performance details haven’t been finalized, but ATS boasts that the GT will be capable of a 0-62 mph sprint time of three seconds with launch control and a top speed of over 205 mph. Thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber components, the ATS GT will tip the scales at 1,300 kg.

In terms of styling, the ATS GT takes its cues from the 1963 original, and features a distinctive metal highlight running down the side. The new ATS GT also features 20-inch rims at the front and 21-inch rims at the rear that house carbon ceramic Brembo brakes. An air brake at the rear provides extra stopping power. To avoid spoiling the supercar’s sleek look, the doors open via touch sensitive pads inside the bodywork. The high-end interior also reflects the ATS GT’s exclusivity. 3-mm speakers positioned around the cabin provide supreme sound quality, and the interior is finished almost entirely with Nubuck leather.

ATS promises that customers will be able to tailor the car to their exact specification down to the tiniest detail - even the tension of the spring in the shifter can be customized. Every one of the 12 cars planned for the initial production run will be “individual.” Whether ATS plans to make any more GTs after the first batch remains to be seen, but it did hint that a more powerful R version could follow. Such exclusivity comes at a cost though - the ATS GT carries a hefty price tag of $1,150,000.
