If only everything could be solved by throwing a body kit and lots of horsepower at the rest of life’s problems.
Theatrics are kind of Shelby’s thing these days, because even though Ford bestowed the storied name on its most powerful Mustangs, Caroll Shelby’s dream is still alive and well gracing Fords with more power, unsurprisingly so given how accessible extra horsepower has become these days. For Shelby, a Mustang bearing the Super Snake name talks a long and loud talk, with previous iterations being given upwards of 750 horsepower. Now the name is back, not just on a Concept Mustang, but on the F-150 as well.

The first car, dubbed the Shelby Wide Body Concept, takes a 2015 or newer Mustang chassis, gives it the 50th Anniversary Super Snake package, and adds a wide body kit. This isn’t just for show, Shelby touts better cornering abilities through increased grip on all four corners, which is enabled by what’s hiding under those bulging fenders. That would be a wider track, with approximately 4 extra inches added to the rear and 2.5 extra inches on the front. As you might suspect, the extra grip is only needed because of how much power this thing makes—750 horses to be exact. These are tamed by an adjustable coil over suspension system, larger brakes, hardened and extended wheel lugs and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

Shelby will officially reveal it on May 20th at the 5th Annual Carroll Shelby Tribute and Car Show and later determine if it will put it into production. If that happens, expect it on sale by Fall of 2017. At the other end of the spectrum is the Shelby F-150 Super Snake, a perfect fit for those who want all the drama supplied by the F-150 Raptor and none of the off-roading gear. Actually, there’s quite a bit more drama because the 5.0-liter V8 under the hood makes the same 750 horsepower as the Shelby Wide Body Concept. It certainly looks the part as well using a new hood, rockers, spoilers, grilles, a rear bumper panel, and a tonneau cover. Racing stripes are also thrown in along with as special badging to help curious onlookers digest what they’re seeing.

Those lucky enough to get a ride will enjoy the themed dashboard, seat and floor. A reworked independent suspension should make cornering interesting for owners of this truck, but if that’s a curiosity you want satisfied, get an order in quickly because Shelby will only turn out 150 of these trucks.
