Oh yeah, it also has a better power-to-weight ratio than a Bugatti Chiron or Hennessey Venom GT.
Big power, small car. It’s a concept that’s been around for ages, most famously used by Caroll Shelby when he replaced the stock inline-six on a British AC Ace with a Ford V8 and imported it into America as an AC Cobra (better known to us as the Shelby Cobra), and then again when Texas tuner John Hennessey stuffed a 1,451 horsepower supercharged 7.0-liter V8 into a lightweight Lotus Exige chassis for maximum speed and acceleration.
One parallel that Shelby and Hennessey share, though, is that neither of their creations could be considered anything less than seriously menacing challengers at any track. Not so for this tiny 1960s Honda S600. Even with a truly outrageous 1,200 horsepower coming from a 2JZ Toyota engine, it’s the irony of a large 88mm turbocharger on the puny car that would make anyone smile.

An important note to keep is to not underestimate this car. That might be obvious when it’s pushing 1,200 horsepower to the wheels, but the effect of its nuclear arsenal's worth of power is compounded by the fact that the engine and turbo are only pushing around 1,100 kilograms (2,425 pounds) of mass, giving it a better power-to-weight ratio than even the Hennessey Venom GT. Quarter mile times are obviously well into the single digits. The owner claims a 7.7-second run at 167 mph. Just as impressive is that it managed an 8.6-second quarter mile after the driver had to hit the brakes midway down the strip and get the front wheels on the pavement to straighten the car out. Talk about sheer insanity with an Australian twist.
