Hopefully this trend will end soon.
Many Jeep Wrangler and 4x4 fans have been clamoring for a diesel-powered version. Sadly, the 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel available on the Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500 can’t be had on the Wrangler. Fortunately, the next generation Wrangler is only a short time away and it’s expected to have a diesel option. Still, we wouldn’t at all mind an oil burner right now, such as the 2.8-liter turbo diesel that can be had in Europe and the UK. Take this limited edition Wrangler Night Eagle, of which just 66 examples will be brought to Her Majesty’s Kingdom (an island).

Revealed earlier this year at Geneva, Jeep has provided some additional details about the Night Eagle, such as paint options. Buyers can choose from Xtreme Purple, Alpine White or Solid Black paint, and yes, there’s even eagle decals on the hood and rear quarter panels. Also included in the mix are 18-inch mid-gloss black wheels, body-color grille, mid-gloss black color accents, headlamp rings, body color dual top, black fuel filler door, deep tint sunscreen glass and a hard spare tire cover. The interior features black leather seats with black sport mesh fabric inserts, leather-wrapped steering wheel with gray stitching, piano-black grab handle, and all-weather slush mats.

But what caught our attention most is that 200 hp turbo diesel, with its combined 31.4 mpg. Paired to a five-speed automatic, Jeep claims a 0-62 mph time of 10.7 seconds. Not bad, but not great. But that’s not why one buys a Wrangler. Off-road prowess is why. Jeep says pricing will begin at 39,810 GBP and sales will begin this week. But don’t worry, America. Our diesel-powered Wrangler is coming soon.
