The end of an era or a new beginning?
We all know the real truth here, and distorting it won’t change a thing. Chevrolet is planning to make the big switch from a front- to mid-engined Corvette, the architecture Zora Arkus-Duntov always wanted but never saw happen in his lifetime. The C8, as we already know, is currently in advanced development, and we should be seeing it, perhaps first as a concept, within the next year or so. Before that arrival, however, Chevrolet will launch the so-called C7 grand finale, the new ZR1. If you think the C7 Z06 is an insane beast, just wait.
Thanks to Corvette Blogger, there's some new footage of the 2018 ZR1 testing on track at Laguna Seca, big rear wing and all. As said by the guy on the ground who took the footage, there were a total of four ZR1 prototypes present that day, two with the smaller rear wing packages and two "Big Wing" cars.

Also present was a Corvette Z06 and Camaro ZL1 1LE, possibly for performance comparison purposes. The videographer and photographer, Ben Hsu, says the "ZR1 sound and speed was in a different class than the Z06 and the Camaro." That’s an important bit of info because it could mean the ZR1 will receive its own dedicated V8, instead of a more powerful version of the Z06’s supercharged 6.2-liter V8, the LT4. So when will the Corvette ZR1 have its big reveal? Our latest report (and we’ve heard nothing new) claims it’ll happen this August at the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase IMSA.
