Only 150 units will be available.
While we wait for the inevitable hardcore variant of the wonderful BMW M2 (BMW M2 GTS, anyone?), arguably the best and purest performance car to don the BMW M badge in a long time, a new US-bound limited edition model is apparently on the cards. BMW Blog reports that a listing for a ‘2017 BMW M2 M Performance Edition’ has been spotted on the ordering system at US BMW dealerships limited to just 150 units and starting at $61,695.

Sadly, the 2017 BMW M2 M Performance Edition won’t be getting any performance upgrades over the standard car, but will contain a slew of modifications and cosmetic changes sourced from the M Performance Parts catalog, including black kidney grilles, black side gills, an M Performance exhaust system with titanium tips, M Performance coilover suspension, M Performance illuminated door sill, and LED door projectors displaying “Performance Edition,” just to remind you that your M2 is a special limited edition.

Inside the cabin, the Performance Edition is fitted with adjustable sport seats, basic keyless entry, single-zone automatic climate control, a hi-fi audio system and black mirror caps. Each model will be painted in Alpine White, and will be equipped with the M Driver’s Package, bringing the top speed to 168 mph. A manual or dual clutch transmission will be available. This could well be a precursor to the previously spied BMW M2 CS, which is expected to sport a similar design to the M4 CS, with bigger brakes and a beefier engine boosted to over 400 horsepower.
