And it could be called the Atlantic.
Bugatti in the modern era, specifically under Volkswagen Group ownership, has built just two models, the mid-engine Veyron and Chiron. According to Automobile Magazine, that could soon change. Supposedly, Bugatti is working on a new 2+2 hybrid coupe that’ll cost less than the Chiron. Its tentative name: Atlantic. Volkswagen Group apparently wants to expand Bugatti as both a high-performance and luxury brand. At the same time, the Group is moving quickly towards EVs and hybrids for mainstream and premium vehicles alike.

Just look at the most recent evidence: the Lamborghini Terzo Millenio Concept and Porsche Mission-E. If this new Bugatti happens, it’ll very likely be built on the same platform that underpins the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, although it’ll be shortened. This same report also claims the platform will also serve as the basis for a new Lamborghini called the Nuova E-spada. Yes, the name is specifically in reference to the classic Espada four-seat grand tourer built from 1968 to 1978. Automobile claims both the new Bugatti and Lamborghini will offer “awesome mid-range torque, effortless waftability, and style.” No precise timetable has been set, but we should see something materialize within the next five years or so.

If that news isn’t enough, then there’s this: Audi and Bentley will receive all-electric cars of their own, both of which will be built on the upcoming Porsche Mission E platform. Automobile further believes the Bentley will be dubbed the “Barnato,” named after Woolf Barnato, one of the original “Bentley Boys,” while the Audi will be called the e-tron GT. But arguably the biggest news regarding VW Group’s premium brand EV and hybrid model expansion is the Bugatti that, despite its cheaper price tag, won’t be anything less than extraordinary.
