Chevrolet’s mid-engine supercar rival was spotted at a McDonalds drive-thru.
Chevrolet has been considering building a mid-engine Chevrolet for years now, and while there still hasn’t been an official announcement, rumors suggest that it’s going into production in 2019, with a world debut penned for the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. New spy photos have now emerged of what appears to be a prototype mule of Chevrolet’s highly anticipated mid-engine supercar rival - but it hasn't been spotted being tested on a race track like you would expect.

Instead, photos posted by Jake Vandermoon on Facebook show it in full view of the public on the streets of Cadillac, Michigan, parked up at a McDonalds drive-thru restaurant. It’s covered in camouflage so it’s hard to make out specific styling details, but there’s enough evidence that suggests this is Chevrolet’s long-rumored mid-engine Corvette. The overall shape looks like a Ferrari 488 GTB, with a shorter hood and a longer rear end compared to the current C7 Corvette to accommodate the mid-engine setup. It’s also lower and wider than the C7, and features additional air ducts behind the doors to feed air into the rear fender area to cool down the engine.

At the front, it appears to have a more aerodynamic fascia, larger side-mirrors, and sweptback headlights, while at the rear we can see quad exhausts and an aggressive diffuser. It’s also riding on production-spec wheels, which suggests we’re looking at a near production prototype. As for what will power the mid-engine Corvette, we know that Chevrolet is working on a DOHC LT5 V8 engine, but whether that will power the C8 or the new C7 ZR1 remains to be seen. Hopefully we’ll finally get to see the mid-engine Corvette in the metal at next year’s Detroit Auto Show in January, so sit tight.
