We know the Faraday Future FF 91 will be a premium EV, but this asking price is extortionate.
The electric Faraday Future FF 91 has been one of the most talked-about cars of the year so far after it was revealed to be the fastest-accelerating EV in the world. Despite not being in production yet, not to mention embarrassing technical issues and internal struggles, the publicity has encouraged people to place orders. Some even paid $5,000 for a priority order, and yet Faraday hasn’t revealed a final price for the FF 91 yet. However, we may now have an indication of the cost thanks to an interview posted on Electrek – and it’s not cheap, to put it mildly.

In the interview, Jia Yueting, CEO of Faraday Future's financial backer LeEco, said that the FF 91 will cost “less than two million Chinese yuan.” Converting that to US dollars, the price equates to less than $292,645. We knew the FF 91 was being billed as a premium EV, and we didn’t expect it to be cheap considering it comes equipped with a 130 kWh battery pack and is loaded with futuristic tech such as autonomous self-parking, but this is extortionate. It’s worth noting, though, that this figure will probably be cheaper in the US - cars tend to be more expensive in China due to import taxes and other fees, but anything in the $200,000 region would still make it considerably more expensive than its rivals.

A top-spec Tesla Model S with a 100-kWh battery pack, for example, starts at $130,000, which would put Faraday at a serious disadvantage. And even if you can afford it, production of Faraday’s factory in Las Vegas has been on hold since late last year, so it’s still unknown if the FF 91 will be sold outside of China.
