But they'll still remain enemies.
Not everyone will be aware that Ford and Chevrolet very recently jointly developed a new 10-speed automatic transmission. The idea was to save money on costs as both automakers have use for such a gearbox. Originally we were told this new 10-speed would be utilized in the Ford F-150 as well as the Chevy Camaro. This is the very same gearbox Chevy already claimed shifts faster than Porsche’s highly regarded PDK dual-clutch. Expect for the upcoming Camaro ZL1 to have this new unit.

But it turns out Ford has additional plans for it aside from the F-150. According to Mustang6, a leaked image of a database system used by Ford dealerships showing parts for upcoming vehicles reveals, starting in 2018, that 10-speed will find its way to the Mustang as well. You can currently get a Mustang with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed auto, which is a nearly $1,200 option. Obviously, we expect the 10-speed unit to replace the current slushbox but the manual, thankfully, isn’t expected to go anywhere. Ford still has yet to confirm this update but it would make sense because 2018 is right around the time we expect the Mustang to receive a facelift.
