Ford Teases New 2016 Police Interceptor Model Based On The Explorer Ahead Of Chicago

Pay attention, you'll want to recognize it when it's in your rear view.
Technically speaking, Ford hasn't told us that the vehicle in the teaser on the next page is an Explorer. The photo was accompanied by just a couple of simple sentences. “New Ford Police Interceptor to be shown at the Chicago Auto Show.
Built in Chicago, the Police Interceptor Utility gets even better with more high-tech features. See it at the Chicago Auto Show on Feb. 12.” But just take a look at it, there's no mistaking that for anything else.

After the new Police Interceptor is revealed in Chicago, it is expected to go up for sale by the summer. It will, in all likelihood, be based on the Sport trim level of the Explorer, which means a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 producing 365 horsepower. In civilian dress, this is a vehicle that can get to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds, although all of the extra police equipment will likely add a couple of tenths to that. Not that we would advocate running from one, of course. And if you are the sort of person who is likely to speed, the Chicago Auto Show will be a good opportunity to see what you should be watching out for.
