Facelifted model gets modest styling upgrades, new tech and a more potent, frugal powerplant.
Debuting today at the 2014 DFW Auto Show in Dallas, the 2015 Ford Expedition has been unveiled and the biggest news is the loss of the 5.4-liter V8 in favor of the carmaker’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. The direct-inject, twin-turbocharged unit is said to improve the fullsize SUV’s fuel economy, give it more power and increase its low-end torque. Ford failed to reveal specs, but in the Navigator the same unit produces “at least” 370 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque.

Something similar will be sent to the tarmac via the Expedition’s six-speed automatic box. The facelifted model is set apart by an aggressive front end, a revised three-bar grille (the outgoing model has four), new headlight design, chrome exhaust tips, new wheels, a redesigned tailgate and optional LED fogs. As before, the Expedition is available with a 119- or 131-inch wheelbase (the EL model), while interior volumes remain unchanged. Two new 4.2-inch LCD screens are new additions to the revised instrument panel, an eight-inch touchscreen comes with MyFord Touch-equipped models, while tech goodies include cross-traffic alert, push-button start and a rearview camera.

A luxury-oriented Platinum trim has most of these features as standard and offers buyers the choice of dark red leather or gray-accented black leather seats. The 2015 Ford Expedition will enter production later this year, with XLT, Limited and King Ranch trims to be added soon after.
