To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the original Quattro, Audi is reportedly planning to unveil a production version of the 2010 Quattro Concept.
If anyone recalls, nearly two years ago at the 2010 Paris Motor Show Audi debuted something really awesome but wasn’t committed to building: the Quattro Concept. Intended to be a tribute to the original and legendary 1984 Sport Quattro, the Quattro Concept looked fantastic and was powered by a 2.5-liter five-cylinder that produced around 380 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. Power was sent to all four wheels (of course) via a dual-clutch gearbox. We all wanted to see it as a production car but Audi remained noncommittal.

But now word coming from a few sources is indicating that the automaker plans to debut a production version at Frankfurt this September in honor of the 30th anniversary of the original. The early buzz is indicating the new Quattro will have a "sharper" shape than the concept and will also incorporate a number of lightweight components such as carbon fiber, aluminum and magnesium. All told, the new Quattro will likely weigh in the ballpark of 2,866 lbs. And unlike the concept’s five-pot, the production car could end being powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that’s good for around 650 hp. No official word yet on pricing, but it’ll likely sticker for around $150,000 and production, not surprisingly, will be limited.
