FJ Cruiser's Lights are Too Bright

In one of the more unusual recall notices we've seen, Toyota claims its FJ Cruiser's auxiliary front lights are too bright and could cause a crash.
Generally when a recall is announced for any given car, the issue typically involves something that directly relates to a systems glitch involving safety, mechanical or any other potential issues. But this latest notice coming from Toyota is a bit unusual. The Japanese automaker has just issued a recall for its FJ Cruiser, model years 2007 to 2013, specifically for owners who have the auxiliary lighting kit attached to the front bumper. It turns out those lights are too bright.

The reason being that they have 55-watt bulbs and when turned on and combined with the upper beam lights, it could potentially blind oncoming drivers and therefore increase the risk of an accident. Toyota already has the solution, which is to simply replace the 55-watt units with less bright 35-watt bulbs. The recall is set to begin later this month and will be performed free of charge for owners at their local Toyota dealership.
