Seat Preparing New Leon Cupra

Volkswagen's Spanish subsidiary looks poised once again to get the more powerful hot hatch than its German and Czech counterparts.
If you like the Volkswagen GTI but prefer your hot hatch with a little bit of a Latin accent, we’ve got good news, because Seat is preparing to launch its new Leon Cupra. The Leon was re-launched last year atop the VW Group’s new MQB platform, but while it’s available (where it’s available) with a variety of gasoline and diesel engines, what enthusiasts have been looking forward to most is the flagship Cupra performance model. And the new Spanish hot hatch looks like it'll be a real barn-stormer.

Auto Express is now reporting that the new Leon Cupra will pack VW’s 2.0-liter turbo four, but tuned to produce more power than you’ll find in either the Golf GTI or the upcoming Skoda Octavia vRS. That could amount to as much as 260 horsepower. The report also suggests that Seat could offer the new Cupra on all versions of the new Leon, including five-door hatch, three-door SC hatch and (for the first time) a wagon version as well.
