Rolls-Royce Reveals Wraith in Geneva

The fastest and most powerful Rolls-Royce to date, the new Wraith makes its debut today at the Geneva Motor Show.
It’s been hinted at. It’s been endlessly teased. And now it’s here. It’s the new Rolls-Royce Wraith, and it’s finally been released at the Geneva show. The Ghost-based fastback coupe is, in the words of Rolls chief Torsten Muller-Otvos, "the ultimate gentlemen’s gran turismo" and "the most powerful Rolls-Royce in history." Substantiating that claim is a retuned version of the Ghost’s 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12, producing 624 horsepower (instead of the Ghost's 563) and 590 lb-ft of torque (vs 575) for a 4.4-second 0-60 time.

That’d be quick for a lightweight sports car, but the Wraith is a luxury coupe. The bold lines and fastback profile contain an assuredly unsurpassed level of opulence and refinement. Open the rear-hinged "coach" doors to find sumptuous leather, thick carpeting, the fiber-optic headliner and Canadel Panelling – the tactile wood trim that sweeps the cabin. Driver and occupants benefit from a new voice-command system and touchpad rotary controller for the infotainment system. The Wraith also introduces a new technology from BMW that uses satellite mapping data to select from the 8-speed automatic transmission the right gear for the road ahead.

The system will find its way into other BMW Group models, but in the Wraith it's but another element that seeks to make the driving experience "effortless". At €245,000 - equivalent to $320k and significantly more than the Bentley Continental GT Speed - it ought to be.
