Production Chevy SS to Debut at Daytona

The V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive production Chevrolet SS will finally have its official premiere on February 16th at the Daytona International Speedway.

At first it started as a rumor. Then Chevrolet confirmed it but declined to give an official launch date. But the wait is nearly over as Chevy has announced that the production version of its new SS performance sedan will debut on February 16 at the Daytona International Speedway's fan zone. For the uninitiated, the Chevy SS is basically the reborn Pontiac G8, itself a rebadged Holden Commodore from Australia.The SS will be the first V8 Chevy sedan sold in the US in 17 years.

Chevrolet's US vice president, Jim Campbell, also confirmed the news and stated that "This is the first time that we've done this in decades, where we're going to introduce a whole new model at a racetrack. We've done special editions at racetracks, but many decades since we've done this with a whole new model." The SS will also receive a number of upgrades, both in performance and packaging, when compared to the discontinued G8. It will be built alongside the Commodore in Australia and will go on sale in the US by the end of this year.
