Perhaps I am in the minority, but I have always loved the X6 and would gladly park one in my garage (if I could afford it).

Agreed. SUV's are early used off road. Why don't people but a Volvo wagon or something of they want to be able to carry 7 passengers?
It is pointless, ugly and useless. For 60 grand you can get a kitted out explorer and save money. Sports activity vehicles are just dumb.
I can understand that some might not like it. But calling it unnecessary I'm not sure about that. Personally I wouldn't buy one. But I can understand why some do. It looks the part. It's imposing. And it's quite nice to drive honestly.
Honestly it had better passenger space than Infiniti fx35 when I tried. I see lots of fx35 on the road so I am not surprised to x6
People like it because 1- it's unique 2- impracticality is considered cool 3- looks like coupe 4- they need SUV for weather but not space. I have a kid in my school whose mom drive the x6m, he isn't complaining
I can't believe someone said "good looking car!". Nick, I too see these all the time, but only briefly as my windscreen is then obscured with vomit, and my eyes with tears of laughter at the egotist driver that thought it was a good buy for his image

I see these all the time. Real good looking car. And yes you have to have money to drive this, yes they don't care what you think.
So it cant go off-road well it cant carry a billion things in the back it cant transport a large number of people. But it can drive fast for its size

Saw one of these in person once... I was hospitalized for several days afterward. Turns out the 5-series GT is useful if u want ur stomach turned inside out.
Well these were only made to be out into the GT market at an early stage. You never know, BMW could've decided to make a ferrari thrashing supercar in the GT spec by making this its predecessor

I disagree its a bmw much cheaper than a 328i with the same engine. And has the space of a 528i, whats not to like.
Only reason these are made, is because mom needed something to take the kids to soccer practice in so she could fit in better with the other soccer moms, because she couldn't afford the X5 or an X3 for that matter.
Why can't someone just be buying the car because they love the interior, the way it drives, and they want it for the snow. (With X drive)
I've driven this and its a nice car. Plenty of room, even compared to the ford explorer.

That small grille behind the front wheel is absolutely horrid in every way. For that matter, so is the whole car.

Daniel, in that case, these models are necessary. BMW is trying to grow the company by reaching new market segments. Smart move given all the competitors now in their traditional segments. They also need fuel economy cars for meeting CAFE standards.

Jeff, he's talking about cars that don't uphold BMW's sporty/luxurious nature and have other cars in their segments that you could buy for as much or less. Cars that won't be missed.
There are very few true needs in this world. Automobiles are not one of them. And therefore the entire basis for this article is the author's narrow minded opinion.

I'm not sure why the author gets to determine what serves a legitimate purpose or not. I'm pretty sure every one sold legitimizes a vehicles purpose. And surely BMW sees some purpose or else they wouldn't be produced.
