Carmakers love to bid adieu to a generation with a final edition model.

Marking the occasion or moving inventory, whatever their reasons carmakers love to send off a generation with a "final edition" model. There have been some pretty cool models over the decades, but we've focused on those that have been created over the past couple of years. From the BA3 Final Edition for the awesome G-Wagon to Weisman's psychedelic MF3 Roadster, we present our favourite five, while looking forward to Lamborghini's long-awaited final edition Gallardo.

Based on the short-wheelbase Station Wagon, the BA3 Final Edition marked the end of the G-Class and was available as a G350 or G500 model, the latter packing a 5.5-liter V8 good for 388 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. Visuals upgrades that marked the G-Class as a Final Edition model include AMG flared wheel arches with 18-inch 5-twin-spoke light alloys, running boards, a spare wheel cover with a stainless-steel 3D Mercedes-Benz star, and an AMG radiator grille in a 3-louvre design with chrome highlights. Inside the BA3 Final Edition bpasted ambient lighting, chrome and walnut wood trim and black leather front seats.

Although the Ferrari 599 GTB 60F1 wasn't dubbed a "final edition," that's exactly what it was. Built to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Scuderia's maiden Formula 1 victory at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone, the new Ferrari 599 GTB HGTE 60F1 is based on the powerful HGTE version and came with three liveries, including the 375 F1 livery, which uses the same red finish as the triumphant F1 car of 1951 combined with darker pastel tones. It boasts the innovative technical material known as Superfabric, common in F1 cars, while the seats are upholstered in black Alcantara and combined with four-point safety harnesses. It also features new 20" diamond-finished forged alloy wheels.

In 2014, Tesla will be replacing the Lotus-based Roadster with a new Roadster built completely in-house by the California manufacturer from the ground up. To mark the end of the Roadster's production, Tesla created a Final Edition model, limited to 15 final units, five of which were slated for North America.
All will be finished in a special Sporting Atomic Red paint with two longitudinal black stripes on its hood and rear clamshell, and an exclusive set of anthracite aluminum alloys. There are no changes to the performance or interior, so the same electric motor will feature under the hood producing 248hp and enabling the car to sprint from 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds.

Wiesmann's Final Edition MF3 roadster, dubbed the 'Scuba Mobil' and created by fashion house Sieger, made an appearance at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. It has a bright yellow finish with light blue, white and black stripes, complemented by an equally loud interior. 18 models each sporting a unique design have been produced of the MF3 Final Edition, marking its 18 years on the market. As an added perk of purchasing the 'Scuba Mobil,' it comes with an exclusive admissions ticket to more than fifty automotive events around Europe.

The Lotus Matte Black Exige Final Edition comes completely blacked-out and is limited to North America with a production run of 25. It follows in the footsteps of the Exige Stealth made exclusively for Japan and the Exige Scura which was limited to Europe. Americans may feel a bit hard done by, as those exclusive models came equipped with features like variable-slip traction control and launch control, whereas the American edition is simply a style package. The Lotus Exige Final Edition features tinted taillights, turn signals, and windows, resin black Lotus wheel badges and black Alcantara seats.
