It's been almost ten years since
Porsche launched its Carrera GT and its much publicized successor has some big shoes to fill. A 918 Spyder test mule has reportedly lapped the famous
Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 14 seconds, which is good enough to put it in the same category as the
Dodge Viper ACR (7:12) and
Gumpert Apollo Sport (7:11). Power will come from a 4.6-liter V8 with 570 horsepower but unlike other supercars, the 918 Spyder is a plug-in hybrid. Even so, total output will be around 800 hp thanks to some extra help from two electric motors. Only 918 examples will be made and all have been sold.
