5 Upcoming Geneva Motor Show Stars

This year's Geneva Motor Show is going to be an incredible display of the world's latest supercars. Get ready.

With the Detroit Motor Show now behind us, the next major event on the auto industry calendar is the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. And thanks to timing so perfect that an alignment of the Earth, moon and sun couldn't match, we're going to see the debut of at least four incredible hypercars. Debuts as significant as these don't happen often and although the production numbers for these cars will be extremely limited, each one is a game changer in their own right. The following will all be the stars of Geneva.

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Lamborghini announced it will debut something special. So special in fact it's reported to be the automaker's fastest road car ever. Last year's one-off Aventador J was quite something and we have no doubt that this year's Geneva Lambo special will be out of this world too. Our best guess: a hard-top Aventador with even more power and styling similar to that of the J.

The Ferrari Enzo was, and still is, a big deal but now it's time for its replacement to arrive on the scene. Codenamed "F150", Ferrari's upcoming all-new hypercar will have a design that will reportedly go down in the company's history as one of its finest. Power will come from a 6.3-liter V12 mated to a dual-clutch gearbox and a Kinetic Recovery System (KERS). Combined, the car's performance will exceed that of the Bugatti Veyron. It'll also be very lightweight and its overall dimensions will be smaller than both the Veyron and Enzo.

McLaren has only recently gotten back into the road car business with its wonderful MP4-12C. But now it's time for the true successor to the iconic F1 to have its big day. Codenamed "P1", McLaren's new hypercar premiered in concept form last September at Paris but the automaker claimed that it was nearly 95 percent production ready. Power will come from a more potent version of the MP4-12C's 3.8-liter V8 that'll also be paired up with a hybrid KERS system. All told, it'll produce at least 800 horsepower and McLaren is already claiming it'll be "the best driver's car in the world."

It's been almost ten years since Porsche launched its Carrera GT and its much publicized successor has some big shoes to fill. A 918 Spyder test mule has reportedly lapped the famous Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 14 seconds, which is good enough to put it in the same category as the Dodge Viper ACR (7:12) and Gumpert Apollo Sport (7:11). Power will come from a 4.6-liter V8 with 570 horsepower but unlike other supercars, the 918 Spyder is a plug-in hybrid. Even so, total output will be around 800 hp thanks to some extra help from two electric motors. Only 918 examples will be made and all have been sold.

With the big debut of the 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe now over, Chevrolet isn't wasting any time in revealing the drop-top version of its iconic sports car. Like its coupe sibling, the convertible will be powered by a 6.2-liter LT1 V8 that's good for 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. In case you haven't noticed, that's the same output from the outgoing Z06. And this is the base model. Buyers will have a choice of either a seven-speed manual or six-speed automatic.
