Top 5 Most Collectible Cars for 2013

Hagerty has picked this year's future classics in its annual Hot List.

If you're keen to snag a future collectible then it's always worthwhile checking out classic car specialist Hagerty Insurance's annual Hot List, which predicts the top ten most collectible mass-produced cars of 2013 priced under $100k. In order of price, cars that sit from ten to six on the list are the Ford Focus ST, VW GTi, Subaru BRZ, Mini John Cooper Works GP, and the Tesla Model S. Hagerty considers all these cars to have a certain shared "cool" factor that guarantees their long-term desirability. Keep reading for a more detailed look at cars five through one.

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible takes the fifth spot on the list for being Chevrolet's "most powerful production convertible ever." Priced at a just under $60k, hardcore enthusiasts will lap up the menacing 6.2-liter 580 horsepower supercharged V8 drop-top ZL1 now and will still love the handsome American pony car twenty years from now.

In fourth place we find the Porsche Cayman S aka "the 911's little brother." The 2013 model is more powerful, efficient and lighter than any other Cayman, and for $63,800 Porsche purists get a sexy looking car, a luxurious interior and the performance to keep up with the previous-gen 911. Sharing its platform with the 2013 Boxster, which gives it a longer, wider and lower profile, the Cayman S manages 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds thanks to its 3.4-liter 325-hp flat-six engine paired with the Sport Chrono Package.

At $100 more than the Cayman S, the Audi RS5 is placed third thanks to its classic coupe good looks and impressive performance. Under the hood is a 4.2-liter V8 with 450 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque on tap. For $68,900 you get a sports coupe priced similarly to its German counterparts but with far superior aesthetics.

The penultimate collector car for 2013 is the Corvette Convertible 427, ideal for enthusiasts underwhelmed by the new Corvette Stingray's styling. Powered by a 7.0-liter V8, the 505-hp 427 special edition is both the last C6, while 2013 is the brand's 60th anniversary. It also happens to be the "fastest and most capable Corvette convertible yet." Final model year Corvettes tend to be the most desirable, but at $75,925 this long-term investment doesn't come cheap.

Topping the list, pricewise at least, is the $97,395 SRT Viper. Chrysler claims that its 640hp, 600lb-ft 8.4-liter V10 creates "the most torque of any naturally aspirated engine currently produced," embodying the much-loved mantra: "there's no replacement for displacement." The reborn Viper has drawn praise from critics throughout the globe for its European supercar good looks, and just like its predecessor is nailed-on to be a future collectible.
