Next Focus RS Coming in 2015

The Ford Focus RS has been confirmed for 2015 and it will pack a 330 HP turbocharged four-cylinder with direct-injection.

We knew it's been in development for some time now, only Ford wasn't commenting as to when it'll officially be launched. However, according to a new report emanating from Autocar, the upcoming third-generation of the Focus RS will go on sale sometime in 2015. The news comes directly from "high-ranking Ford officials" who not only confirmed this date but also reiterated that Ford wants to continue investing in niche models such as the RS and Fiesta ST.

With the arrival of the redesigned Mustang just a short time away, Ford was somewhat concerned that the Focus RS could potentially "cannibalize" Focus ST and even Mustang sales. Fortunately recent customer studies have shown "there's more room for more performance produces across the range in the small, medium and large car segments." In other words, there are two kinds of customers: one for ST products, which are good for everyday purposes, while the other seeks an RS-type car. Both models can evolve alongside the Mustang without hindering the sales for any.

The Focus RS will be powered by a new turbocharged 2.3-liter four-pot that'll be good for around 330 horsepower. Expect to see this engine at some point under the hood of the next Mustang as well. Unlike the Focus ST, the RS will feature a Revoknuckle front suspension, beefed-up brakes and tires and a sportier interior. Like the ST, the RS will be a five-door hatch only for all global markets, including the US.
