Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG by Brabus

Is this is the most powerful roadster in the world? Brabus thinks so. And with over 1,000 lb-ft of torque, it'd be hard to argue otherwise.

Brabus is calling its latest creation, based on the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG, the world’s most powerful roadster. Dubbed the Brabus 800 Roadster, the German convertible's 6.0-liter V12 has been tweaked to deliver 788 horsepower and 1,047 pound-feet of torque (limited to 811 lb-ft to save the drivetrain), up from 621 hp and 738 lb-ft. It'll sprint from 0-62 mph in 3.7 seconds, from 0-124 mph in 9.8 seconds and top out at 217 mph, putting it squarely in supercar territory.

All that latent power was released after Brabus fitted its own twin-turbo system, complete with high-performance manifolds with integrated turbine housings and turbochargers, a remapped ECU, and the addition of four water-to-air intercoolers housed in the custom carbon-fiber hood scoop. Brabus also developed a sound-adjustable stainless-steel exhaust with free-flow metal catalysts and ceramic-coated tailpipes. Power is sent to new 20-inch Monoblock R "Platinum Edition" forged alloys via AMG's Speedshift Plus 7G-tronic transmission, shifted via Brabus' steering wheel-mounted aluminum paddles.

Developed in the wind tunnel, the Brabus aero kit is made up of carbon-fiber components including a front spoiler and rear diffuser, while to improve handling Brabus added a special control module for the suspension that lowers the two-seater by 25mm and a limited-slip rear differential with a locking rate of 40 percent. Completing the package is a custom interior upholstered in leather and Alcantara and featuring scuff plates with backlit Brabus logo, a 220mph speedometer, and carbon-fiber and wood trim. The Brabus 800 Roadster will debut next week at the Geneva Motor Show.
