Adam ThomsonMar 02, 2013 But manual is good as well for other Porsche models...
Dylan BruderFeb 26, 2013 They just tweaked that 7 speed too
Colby ChurchFeb 22, 2013 All people who don't mind if manual isn't offered aren't true drivers. I don't want computer systems doing all the work. People should learn how to drive. There isn't near the same level of excitement or pride when you're not using a gearbox.
Colby ChurchFeb 22, 2013 There will always be some cars offered with manual, even when most have switched over. There is no experience like driving a fast manual car. You feel connected to the car, and it relies on your skill to shift correctly and efficiently.
Colby ChurchFeb 22, 2013 Instead of a finger flick when it gets to redline, the car depends on the driver to accurately shift into the correct gear quickly, and maintaining proper clutch control to make the shift possible. It requires skill, one which most don't possess.
Colby ChurchFeb 22, 2013 Here is the issue. Less and less people know how to drive manual with each generation. People are so used to automatics and depend on the car. Those of us with the skill to work a gearbox properly know that it is the purest way to truly drive a car.
Vito PortanovaFeb 22, 2013 There must be a small percent of people in this world that think a stick is great. I guess numbers talk. My DCT in my m3 is faster, and Imo better than a stick. Great on a track, streets and traffic.
Frank CeravoloFeb 22, 2013 Could that percentage correlate with the number of dbags that only buy pcars today because of the brand's cache? I'll be buried in my manual 993, but Porsche won't get another penny from me now that they've completely paris hiltoned the brand.
Donald Chip SchofieldFeb 20, 2013 Keep them as an option! Especially for the 911 GT3RS
Clinton BurgerFeb 20, 2013 Manual transmissions are like type writers. I'm sure there were people who disagreed with getting rid of them at first, but technology always wins.
Jon AshleyFeb 20, 2013 No... I'm only 18! I need to live in a world with manuals!
Regan BunnFeb 20, 2013 The purist in me is throwing up!!! The thing is the shifts are faster. You can still control the car with the double clutch designs etc
Matt PiccoloFeb 20, 2013 @ Alex, nooooooooooooooo, really?
Alex BouckleyFeb 20, 2013 Matt changed his profile pic?
Gray ConronFeb 20, 2013 Save the Manuals!!!!!!! Don't kill them off please!!!!!!!!!!
Matt PiccoloFeb 20, 2013 @ jimmy, ahah Audi, merc and BMW still make manuals. Slow down their bud
Cian Mac GearailtFeb 20, 2013 Depressing news the pleasure of changing gear with a manual is unbeatable and im sure the types of gt3 and gt2 will stay manual as there all about being as mechanical as possible
Ferniand SilviaFeb 20, 2013 Love the manual in my 911 C2. Wouldn't have it any other way. Hopefully it will continue as an option for a long time.
Chase FeckoFeb 20, 2013 Check out car and drivers "Save the manuals " fb page
Chase FeckoFeb 20, 2013 I can understand on these high sports cars the PDK. But a Manual in my slow subaru is a must. Also, why are non track going car buyers so concerned a out how fast there shifts are...?
Paul TrahanFeb 20, 2013 I knew this was going to happen the first time I read that they were offering the PDK in the GT3.
Erich EngelFeb 20, 2013 ahahaha i hope he did because thats funny he compared a continuously variable transmission to a pdk system. ones for racing the other is for, well you know nissians and econoboxes that need that extra feature to attract customers
Mark BoultonFeb 20, 2013 Franklin- if your implying that the PDK in any way resembles a CVT you need to do more research. A PDK is setup like a manual transmission, but has 2 input shafts and 2 clutches. It can shift better than ANY human- faster, smoother etc.
Franklin BarfieldFeb 20, 2013 No car loving automotive engineer would curse his design with a CVT unless the jack booted thugs in congress and @ EPA, NHTSA etc, weren't trying to put them out of business. One by one the simple automotive pleasures like manual trannies disappear replaced by more complex, expensive and less gratifying tools. Pity.
Jimmy CaseFeb 20, 2013 Looks like America will make the last true drivers car.
Franklin BarfieldFeb 20, 2013 Oh and I forgot to mention the role government environmental regulations play into what kind of trannie is available to consumers. These manufacturers must factor in CAFE mandates and the resultant gas-guzzler taxes to their own and their potential customers bottom line.
Mark BoultonFeb 20, 2013 Actually a lot of the people who buy the PDK do drive there cars, it's an amazing feeling how fast and smooth it shifts, in normal mode you can't feel it- in Sport Plus RPM's always stay between 4-6k.... I love manual trans, but I see why people want
Bala UnccFeb 20, 2013 Aren't the first and second paragraphs contradicting to each other? I think it is too early to freak out.
Ethan AmoFeb 20, 2013 If Porsche does that, then they could be my most hated auto maker...
Erich EngelFeb 20, 2013 you guys know they have engineered the pdk to respond like a true manual, just with no third pedal? you can still down shift and bring it to redline shifting at your own desired time, which i think is safer because they no longer let you miss shifts and go over redline...so whats wrong with pdk again?
David JusticeFeb 20, 2013 I wouldn't fret too much. Should be plenty of manual cars out there for years to come. Plus, it looks like the drivers at Motortrend or Top Gear are having lots of fun driving the new transmission; 458, 991 911, M5... Still got smiles on their faces.
Tyler TarboxFeb 20, 2013 As long there is still a slight demand for manuals, the option will be there. People need to calm down
Chris PenzaFeb 20, 2013 If gearheads continue to want manuals, there will always be transmission swaps
John M WeishahnFeb 20, 2013 The fact that better exists does not mean that good enough is irrelevant.
Ashton SummersFeb 20, 2013 On that note, buy a manual Porsche, may be worth more as a collector down the road.
Carlton GreenFeb 20, 2013 I drive a six speed everyday and I love it. Makes me sad to hear my fave sportscar might not have it by the time I can afford it. Im holdin on to my stick
Malachi MonteiroFeb 20, 2013 Since the C7 Corvette has a 7 Speed Manual, there is still hope for the future of performance cars with manuals.
Robert OdomFeb 20, 2013 Rommel is clearly a moron. But I digress, I know that manuals aren't the most efficient anymore, but gosh darn it I just love driving them so dang much. Please save the manuals.
Rommel PowellFeb 20, 2013 I don't want manuals to be done with for good, I just know that I hate driving them. Id rather have my hand free to smoke some herb and play with my females passenger. Thats just me tho. (Shrugs)
Franklin BarfieldFeb 20, 2013 Lets face it demand trumps everything. There's not enough demand for a traditional manual to warrant the expense and development. This is a great business decision. Demand is for DSG and full-auto trannies for all auto makers. It has nothing to do with buyer's incomes but everything to do with what most people desire. That's why traction control is on a Viper now. Most buyers want/expect it.
Rico TurnerFeb 20, 2013 Only people who don't know how to properly drive a manual agree with this.
Chris HuffFeb 20, 2013 This one is so much better than the old one
Vinny CoppolaFeb 20, 2013 Me2 this color is beautiful
Bala UnccFeb 20, 2013 Love the megahomy metallic color

Jt CollierFeb 22, 2013 because thinking progressively is for pussies. well said. i dont agree with the move but they are about performance cars. Manuals just simply arnt as fast or efficient, thats why F1 cars use flappy paddles.
Colby ChurchFeb 22, 2013 Porsche has a lazy ass excuse for a driver. Oh well, I'm sure that the Corvette will be offered in manual for decades to come. They know what's up. That's a true driver's car. I used to respect Porsche, but now they just look like pussies.
Matthew MazzarelliFeb 21, 2013 Don't blame Porsche, blame the buyers. I understand them completely.
Blake AntilFeb 20, 2013 I may not drive stick. And actually I never have (but if I had to I could). Still I like cars enough to understand the connection between a driver and a stick shift. What's next? Steering wheels are gonna be obsolete?
Lou GuerreroFeb 20, 2013 Ethan, please look up Walter Rohrl. To say he's talented is a gross understatement. Check yourself.
Stephen KraneFeb 20, 2013 Actually you can buy a cayenne with a manual as long as its a v6
Erich EngelFeb 20, 2013 yeah james you right, approx. 100% of all panamera and cayenne sales are pdk/auto tranny which accounts for atleast 50% of porsches sales if not more so if 60% of 911/cayman/boxsters are sold pdk its not even that big of a deal they still move about 2000 manual cars a year, so until they are completely nixed, you can still get a manual used
James E CaldwellFeb 20, 2013 I blame the 80% auto/pdk on their large number of SUV and sedan sales. I'd like to think those numbers are not do high on their sports cars.
Alex BouckleyFeb 20, 2013 The PDK actually works well though
Cian Mac GearailtFeb 20, 2013 People who buy the likes of a 911 are usually wealthy enough to think they shouldn't have to change gear
Franklin BarfieldFeb 20, 2013 Listen to the purists howl! But Porsche listens to what enables them to sell more and better Porsches. $$$$ talks. Buy more manuals and they will build more. It is stupid to spend boatloads of money developing better manual trannies when only a handful of people order them. I like manuals too but technology marches on.
Erich EngelFeb 20, 2013 Nice speculation carbuzz, anyone can piece it together tho, they never said they are planning on Gettin rid of it, I don't see this as news as you didn't inform me of anything
Dennis ChoongFeb 20, 2013 I don't know about the 991, but 986 & 996 shared the same chassis, only the 996 has its unique rear suspension to cope with the weight distribution.
Vinny CoppolaFeb 20, 2013 I agree with Franklin, the cayman is a much better looking car. The 911 always reminded me of a stretched out Beatle...
Erich EngelFeb 20, 2013 and you are right about that one the 911 can out handle a boxster, if we are talking about stock handles
Erich EngelFeb 20, 2013 "How is it you find a rear engine and a mid engine design similar?" uhhhh well whats underneath doesnt necessarily reflect the styling, as they look similar...look at the 986 and 996 porsches, they look very close, even though they have different engine locations
Franklin BarfieldFeb 20, 2013 I think RUF customers would argue you down on that. In fact were you to own one you'd likey retract that notion. How is it you find a rear engine and a mid engine design similar? The only reason the Cayman won't out accelerate a 911 is because Porsche won't allow Cayman to have the requisite power. As far as handling is concerned its no contest.
Erich EngelFeb 20, 2013 actually you are wrong, they are very similar in design, the cayman sharing some 911 cues, but i did also say that in regards to power, the 911 is king, and wether or not which car is better potentially probably wont ever be known unless porsche it self actually designs the car better...just because ruf can make it faster than a 911 doesnt mean its superior
Franklin BarfieldFeb 20, 2013 @Erich if you intended to say that the Cayman is a a rear mid-engine design that would be correct. You are wrong in stating that it and the 911 share any design commonality beyond the basic engine format and the company name. The Cayman is better than the 911. Only Porsche keeps it 2nd fiddle to the 911.
Bala UnccFeb 20, 2013 Each time I look at the rears of 911 and cayman my opinion changes on which one I like the most
Franklin BarfieldFeb 20, 2013 @Ahmed how do you know I'm not a doctor? Anyway you are correct it is my opinion and my opinion is that the Cayman is the best looking Porsche ever built. Not even close. RUF designs are much better even than Porsche's own. Maybe you need to come see me in my office...
Erich EngelFeb 20, 2013 Everyone knows a cayman is a 911 with the engine pushed forward To where the rear child seats are and now finally the tail lights are different other than that they are similar without regards to power
Tyler TarboxFeb 20, 2013 @Ahmed. Looks are completely opinion based.
Ahmed Al HarthyFeb 20, 2013 @franklin I know it's ur opinion and all that.. But did you just said the cayman is a better looking than the actual 911?? U must go see a doctor
Franklin BarfieldFeb 20, 2013 Never thought the 911 was a looker. The Cayman is much better design, but there is no doubt Porsche is a technological marvel making that design handle with so much of the engine behind the rear axle. And this even without awd. Those guys are magicians. Kudos.
Petro MaaloufFeb 20, 2013 What a beauty and simple design , but never drop the manual porsche keep it to stay special
Erich EngelFeb 20, 2013 At least it's not black, I hate black interiors, they never look as good as beige or tan or even red or blue, I think if I had to have a 911 converti I would choose white or silver with blue interior which would be classy
Tyler TarboxFeb 20, 2013 Porsche interiors have always been amazing. Even the new C7 has nothing on this
Ashton SummersFeb 20, 2013 Silver and red, best combo ever.
Matt PiccoloFeb 20, 2013 Looks great! Always loved red interiors
Noah GavurinFeb 20, 2013 just enough pedals, not too few, not too many
Matthew MckernanFeb 20, 2013 I love red leather, I think it looks great! This may be a little much though, I'd prefer that the dashboard and maybe the steering wheel was black.

Driver's car my ass
I don't want to live on this planet anymore.
I just died a little inside.
I guess only 20% of Porsche drivers get to fully enjoy there car!
Noooooooooooooo
I don't think they should get rid of manuals. I would personally prefer automated. I do still like the manual though
This is sad. Why are people so lazy these days.
Manuals are the best way to drive cars!!! I'd cry!!
I'd rather die than see Porsche do this.
I think the PDK transmission is better altough im not used to like porsches.
Nooooo

I knew it! All but the boutiques will follow Porsche. PDKs are just plain superior, just like a more powerful engine.
Thanks to all the rich people who want to buy an expensive nice road car and drive it like its a smart car.
