Dodge unveils HEMI V8-powered Challenger R/T Redline ahead of its Chicago debut.
When Dodge unveiled the Challenger Rallye Redline
at last year's Festival of LXs, it's aggressive modern styling was let down by its rather tame 3.6-liter V6. To right that wrong, Dodge has come up with the 5.7-liter HEMI V8-powered Challenger R/T Redline that it will unveil at the Chicago Auto Show next week. Carrying over the majority of the Rallye model's package including the 20-inch Black Chrome wheels with red lip, the R/T Redline gets a custom retro look with an all-new two-color Redline Red and Graphite stripe that runs from the front wheel arches to the tail.
"Redline" features in red over the graphite color scheme and the new Challenger also features a body-color grille surround. Four exterior colors of Billet Silver, Granite Crystal, Bright White and Pitch Black are complemented by a Dark Slate Grey interior. The HEMI V8 delivers 375 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque when mated to a six-speed manual. With an optional five-speed automatic output drops to 372 hp and 400 lb-ft, but for that sacrifice in performance drivers are rewarded with bright pedals, a Mopar T-Handle shifter and remote start.
At the back lies a growling performance-tuned low-restriction dual exhaust, while the Challenger R/T Redline comes with a performance-tuned suspension and steering calibration as well as performance-disc brakes. The Redline package is priced at $1,995 over the Challenger R/T's starting price of $29,995, and can also be specified with the R/T Plus, which for an additional $2,000 ($33,990) comes with Nappa leather seating, Boston Acoustics speakers, rear-park assist and power heated mirrors.
