Volvo Facelifts Six Models for Geneva

Volvo reveals facelifts for the S60, V60, XC60, V70, XC70 and S80 models. New XC90 to arrive next year.

In the Swedish carmaker’s most extensive upgrade to its model range to date, Volvo has taken the knife to no less than six models, revealing new looks, more efficient powertrains and some new tech just in time for the cars’ reveal at next month’s Geneva Motor Show. Only the new V40 and XC90 – the latter set to be replaced late next year – have been left untouched. Of the six facelifted models making their debut, the S60, V60 and XC60 have received the most significant upgrades.

All three adopt larger headlights, wider front grilles with chrome molding surround, and daytime running lights in the front apron positioned horizontally on the S60 and V60 and vertically on the SUV. The XC60’s cladding now comes in the same color as the rest of its body instead of black and it also sports a new hood, while the S60 and V60 gets the option of the Lower Sport Chassis for the first time, previously exclusive to the R-Design trim. The V70, XC70 and flagship S80 saloon adopt certain detail changes as well. They also receive a bigger grille but without the chrome surround.

The lower section of the front bumper and spoiler has been redesigned, while the round fog and DLRs have been replaced by rectangular ones and the backend of the V70 – including bumper, exhaust and taillights – has been completely reworked. Across the board Volvo has added its Sensus HMI interface with 7-inch touchscreen display, which enables drivers to go online via their mobile phones and select songs on Spotify by voice command. Shift paddles also feature on the steering wheel for models with automatic transmission, as long as the three-spoke steering wheel is specified.

An adaptive digital dashboard first introduced on the V40 also comes as standard and Volvo has also fitted new sports seats. Finally, fuel consumption has also been improved across the lineup with Volvo claiming the most efficient S60 is capable of 59mpg.
