Jayson, it's not always about whats faster. There is a connection when driving a stick shift car that you just can't get with flappy paddles. The GT-R is a good example. Supremely capable but lacks soul.
Of having to reach down and shift rather than a twitch of the finger. Don't worry. Most flappys come with an S mode on the gear changer so it's just like a manual, you elegy to control when you shift and how much power you want from each gear.
Especially since the shifting is done electronically. Why do you think Ferrari and other top notch exotic manufactures use it ? Most Le Mans cars and cars of the same tier use flappy paddle cause it is quicker. It shaves time of the actual movement
I don't know why people always need a stick to want a car. It's not like the days back in the 70's that an automatic is horrendous compared to a manual. Nowadays, auto is getting just as fast, or in some cases, faster than a manual.

@ashton, the 04-06 GTOs come with a tremec manual. The same one that's used in the 03-04 SVT Cobra and even in vipers( though it is slightly different here). I have an 04 and the tranny does not feel anything like a rock grinder.
Bernard, uh almost all race cars have ether paddle shifters or sequential gearboxes.

This isn't a race car. It doesn't need a manual. All car companies are moving away from manuals.
A manual would be more fun, but GM don't have the greatest manuals. Remember the gearbox on the 6.0 GTO feeling somewhat like a rock grinder.

Tyler, To say Chevy sucks makes you look like a fool. They put out some of the best bang for buck cars around. Also, I would not call 0-60 in around 5 seconds slow by any means. Especially for a sedan.
I don't like how this is only an auto and it needs to be faster. It need more power as well.
@Cian You've got to be kidding me... CTS-V = Lighter, 580 horsepower, 0-60 of 3.9 seconds. SS = 0-60 of 5 seconds. Not close.

colby, you didn't understand my comment. I was a bit let down by the new impala, with the fwd and lack of a v8 option or ss version, but now I understand why GM went more mainstream with the new impala, because they were working on this to be a performance sedan.
This is just what I've been waiting for. I don't like American cars that much, but I've always had a soft spot for the G8 and the Mustang. And I love this. If anything, it's better than a G8. Now all it needs is the ZR1 engine.
Coming from a new car chevrolet salesmen no one drives the zl1 or zr1 unless you sign a sales contract first.
Well that sucks. My Chevy dealer has would let me drive anything but the ZL1 and ZO6/ZR1 because the people who will buy it will get anal about the miles on it. Then again I wouldn't want that either.
@Shelby. I would have considered a Camaro if the dealer realized I was older than looked. "We'll let you go on a test drive if you put down a deposit first, otherwise bugger off" is essentially what they told me. Just imagine the service department.

Not a huge fan of big lower grille, overall it looks mince though. Hopefully the next update will fix the grille :(

The big plastic piece on the front screams cheap, but the rest looks good. Chevy was so close but falls just short again. Make it shiny or black, anything but plastic. Needs manual option too, just pull from the camaro/vett parts bin, not that hard

Looks quality and a nice place to sit. Especially when you have a lot of time to look at the interior if your in roll-stop traffic.

I like the flat bottom steering wheel, interior looks well laid out, but I really hope they add the 6-speed manual that they already put in the Holden Commodore SS V.

I like this car because its unassuming, it has legs but wont show em. The charger looks too outrageous, which is a good thing. But this is more refined.
I like this car. It's unassuming with a V8 up front and driving the wheels in the back. Not everyone goes for the boy racer look in everything.
The front needs to be more aggressive, like the back is. Needs to be obviously different from the cruze, so it can stand out and say 'I'm not another cheap boring fwd Chevy.'
I hate to say this, but it's a bigger Cruze. They were thinking why not, because the Cruze had highest sales in its class for a while. I don't blame them.

Get rid of the plastic grill thing and make that section more aggressive, many more people will be sold. It's like they wanted to go all out, then they got last minute scared and covered it up with plastic. Get rid of it!

Yuck poo. Would never want one or rely on one either. Still using the old engine from 2007, same gearbox, which alot has had problems at roughly 90,000km which is 50k roughly In miles, so still the old motor, rediculously heavy even with a 6.2L

I agree Eric. The G8 GT still sold really well and are highly sought after despite the auto transmission. I will still look into gettin one of these after I get a look in person.
Also, the option of not having a stick out the gate will lose some sale but trust and believe one will be in the works in the future. In my eyes When I think sports sedan I think performance, not family. That's the look the I get from the SS
I think where Chevy fell short was the fact they were pitching to potential buyers is that it being a domestic car, we would have all options. For me the styling is not aggressive enough for a PURE SS but I understand marketability.
Based on what I've read from you guys and the initial information Chevy put out. We all thought we were getting a bad ass sports sedan. Like come on a V8 in a world of small engines.
My final words on this, its obviously going to be a good car overall but you can tell this is not a real effort on their part. For us dad's, there are virtually NO new car sports sadan's under 30k that are rwd/awd...the WRX being the only one.
Btw, originally the G8 came in V6, GT, and GXP. Only the GXP had stick shift with the LS3 engine if I remember right so what we have here is a GXP minus the stick with a way better interior, tech upgrades, and high end tech added.
My issue remains, they offer it in a 6 speed stick all over the world but not for us American's? So GM, in your home country you deny us choice? Sorry to keep repeating but I had such high hopes this would be my next car.

Not gonna lie, when I heard about this I was contemplating trading in my Jeep for it because I always said if they made the new Malibu rwd and with a v8 I'd buy it. This was essentially that. Now I'm learning it has no manual option which is complete
The 2012s did. When I was working at a Chrysler dealership last summer I would go over and look at the Buicks and they had one on the showroom floor with a 6 spd manual
oh, yeah, it did. I was looking at the options for it at the chicago auto show this year, and the 2013 model had a 6spd auto standard. I could be wrong, but I think they ditched the manny.

Isaac, the G8 GXP is a manual. Good luck finding one though. I think the SS will be way more refined and grown up than an STI though. I don't see the same group of people cross shopping.

Even if this won't have manual, it's still a way different car than a Speed6 or WRX. This will have a lot more options and creature comforts.

As a previous G8 owner I see a car that is more refined, much better interior, and better tech. With that said, no stickshift option (when its standard around the world) is yet another moronic move by GM. I'll forgive the bland style up front but I wont forgive forced automatic.
