New automotive brand from China will present world premiere of its first production car, along with two concept studies, at the Geneva Motor Show.
New Chinese automaker Qoros revealed its maiden project
at the end of last year. At the time we reported it was to be called the GQ3. Now it appears the new automotive brand has given it the more simple designation of the Qoros 3 Sedan. The car, along with the brand, will announce itself to the world at next month's Geneva Motor Show, where Qoros will debut its first production model, the C-segment 3 sedan, along with a pair of case studies in the form of a Qoros 3 Cross Hybrid Concept and a Qoros 3 Estate Concept.
After two years of extensive testing, the Qoros 3 Sedan is ready for launch. It's homeland of China will be the first to receive the car in the second half of the year, with European sales following a short time later. Further models will then be rolled out every six months or so.
Innovative modular vehicle architecture developed in-house will allow for the model range to quickly expand with new shapes and sizes, which will be developed and engineered by a mix of experienced engineers and aspiring automotive design talent. A joint venture between Chery Automobile and Israel Corporation, Qoros is based in Changshu where up to 450,000 units could potentially be churned out each year.
The Qoros 3 Sedan has an immediately forgettable design - yet another take on the modern obsession with four-door coupes - and at 4,615mm long and 1,849mm wide is quite large for a compact sedan, allowing for a generous cabin. In fact, Qoros aims to deliver roomy and high-quality interiors for all its models, complete with a unique eight-inch capacitive touchscreen developed in-house featuring an advanced sat-nav, social networking connectivity and car-health monitoring. Power comes from either a 1.6-liter four-pot rated at 126 hp and 114 lb-ft of torque, or a turbocharged variant good for 156 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque.
Both units are mated to a six-speed manual and optional six-speed dual clutch transmission, with stop/start as standard. The Qoros 3 Cross Hybrid Concept demonstrates what the brand has in mind for future compact hatchback and crossover models while showcasing an advanced hybrid drive system consisting of a three-cylinder turbocharged 1.2-liter gasoline engine and two electric motors. Some clever software will allow for seamless transition between gas-powered FWD, electric RWD and AWD as required. The Estate Concept showcases another body style Qoros hopes will appeal to European buyers, built on the same platform as the 3 Sedan.
