Benz C-Class Sheds Some Camo

Mercedes is hard at work getting the new C-Class ready for production. BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 should take notice.

It's been a year since we first spied the new C-Class, but from these latest spy shots, we can see that Mercedes is still hard at work preparing the compact sedan for launch. Beyond the camouflage we anticipate a front-end influenced by the F800 Style Concept that broke cover at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. However Mercedes won't experiment too wildly with the design of its most popular model. It just requires enough of a sporty edge to give the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series a run for their money.

The new C-Class will be offered with various gasoline and diesel engines as well as a hybrid variant for the first time. We also expect the new C-Class to adopt the new gadgets from the S-Class, much as the updated E-Class has, which will make it the safest car in its class. First out in 2014 will be the sedan, followed by the wagon six months later, and the coupe and convertible some time in 2015. The new-generation C-Class will be produced for the first time in the US for American consumption at Mercedes' Alabama plant alongside the GL and M-Class SUVs.
