Mercedes Planning 3 More 45 AMGs

New A45 AMG isn't the only compact performance model in the pipeline at Affalterbach.

If you were disappointed by the revelation that the new Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG - just revealed the other day in advance of its upcoming Geneva show debut - won't be available in North America, take heart: the latest reports indicate that AMG is planning no less than three more compact performance machines using the same mechanical bits. First up will be the CLA45 AMG, the four-door coupe model which is being geared up specifically for American tastes for debut at the New York Auto Show only weeks after the A45's debut in Geneva.

Half a year later, we're to expect a GLA45 AMG performance crossover to debut in Paris, following a CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake at Geneva next year. We could also be looking at a new roadster to breed an SLA45 AMG as well, but that could be still a way off. Whatever shape, they'll all be powered by AMG's new 2.0-liter turbo four that drives 355 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The most powerful four-cylinder engine in production is claimed to propel the A45 to 62 mph in 4.6 seconds. Expect similar performance in the CLA45, though the heavier and larger GLA45 may take a bit longer.
