Cigarette Speedboat Packs SLS Electric Drive

Partnership between Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette speedboats transfers electricity to the water.

If you're a regular reader here at CarBuzz, we know what you're thinking: AMG and Cigarette already released a speedboat together just the other day. But now they're back with another. So what's different about this one? Unlike any of their previous collaborations, this speedboat is an electric vehicle. In fact it takes its motors from the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive - in triplicate - and packs them into a 38-foot matte chrome yellow ("AMG Electricbeam magno") hull.

So while the electric SLS produces 740 horsepower and 737 lb-ft of torque, the Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept churns out 2,220 hp and 2212 lb-ft. That's enough to propel the speedboat to a top speed of 100 mph, which is absolutely bonkers on the open water - all the more so for an electric boat. The apparent reason, in case you're wondering, why Cigarette and AMG released two collaborative speedboat projects one so closely after the other (following the 42' Huntress) is that they're both being unveiled to the public at the Miami International Boat Show that starts today and is essentially the aquatic equivalent to the Detroit Auto Show.
