Published: Feb 13, 2013
Description: Hot hatches used to be almost exclusively spruced-up versions of relatively budget-oriented, mass-market vehicles. Think of VW Golf GTI, Renault's Clio RS and Subaru's Impreza STI. But now e...

A hot hatch without a stick is like riding a horse with seatbelts, if might me smarter to have the paddle shift but it's part of the experience to have a manual transmission!
Tino Domingue Feb 13, 2013
Bring to the states now!!!
Franklin Barfield Feb 13, 2013
I'm no fan of these little cars. Too many friends and relatives killed in them but if anybody can make a small car safe it's Merc. Besides this thing sounds like a blast to drive!
Tobias Mersinger Feb 13, 2013
The cla looks so freakin good!
Nick Benz Feb 13, 2013
I am happy we get the cla amg at least.
Cian Mac Gearailt Feb 13, 2013
More like a hyper hatch then hot
Dan Chiu Feb 13, 2013
Great! Another awesome hatch thats not coming to the States....
Tyler Tarbox Feb 13, 2013
I'm sorry but I hate when people say "if you have to ask you can't afford" doesn't really apply
Jason Brown Feb 13, 2013
I think Johnny nailed the price range at 50-60k. Too much for what it is. Even at 45-50k range which probably won't be.
Pablo Herasme Feb 13, 2013
Franklin when I asked about pricing I was in a way Hinting it being expensive haha
Jordan Nishida Feb 13, 2013
It's ok. The only hatchback that I really like is the mini cooper
Carissa Wilson Feb 13, 2013
Less than 30K.
Chris Friend Feb 13, 2013
Johnny I'd take this cause I don't like Corvettes
Franklin Barfield Feb 13, 2013
@Pablo if you have to ask 'how much' then you can't afford it! Seriously you can bet it will be hideously expensive. Its a Mercedes.
Pablo Herasme Feb 13, 2013
This looks great ,but I just wonder the cost...
Johnny Hoover Feb 13, 2013
$50-60k for this or a next gen corvette
Ashton Summers Feb 13, 2013
This is so much better looking than the last A-Class.
Michael Kozlowski Feb 13, 2013
Not a fan of hatchbacks, but this I think I like. Gotta give it a little time to see of it grows on me more or not.
Sam Biggin Feb 13, 2013
Good looking hatch
Description: Based on the new A-Class, which promises to give Daimler a bigger share of the premium hatchback segment than its predecessor, the A45 upgrades with some rather enticing specs. Its 2.0-liter turbo fou...

Concern with this car is that the ride could be an issue and haldex AWD isn't known for great handling. In fact Audis with this system are by and large an understeery mess!
Jean-Paul Grenade Feb 15, 2013
@Jake. I've driven both the C63 and E63AMG Mercs and they handle outrageously well. There was a time in the 90's when they were a poor substitute for BMW M but that's not the case anymore. AMG really know what they are doing.
Ryan Patrick Clauson Feb 14, 2013
I don't have anything against AMG, but that's a lot of of power out if a factory 2.0, either that turbo is massive and there's a ton of lag, or they're really pushing a lot of boost on a smaller turbo which isn't gonna last that long
Tino Domingue Feb 13, 2013
Amg's handle like a beats but the powers to the wheels is a greater beats... U have DRIVE the car wid at foot not made of lead!!!
Ryan Spencer Feb 13, 2013
Damn, that's impressive for that little car.
Ashton Summers Feb 13, 2013
@Nick, you also might add that Top Gear is scripted, and for entertainment purposes. Good point.
Tyler Tarbox Feb 13, 2013
@Nick. That's a pretty accurate conclusion actually
Chris Friend Feb 13, 2013
I think all Mercedes look better than Modern Day Ferraris (save for the F12), but 2000+ Ferraris all look like garbage. The 90s produced some great looking Ferraris (Minus the disgusting F50)
Franklin Barfield Feb 13, 2013
And if you believe this AMG looks better than a Ferrari 458 I advise you to get an eye exam and I am not a Ferrari fan.
Ashton Summers Feb 13, 2013
I suppose an AMG will handle poorly if you drive them like your an Idiot, but I wouldn't blame the car for it.
Franklin Barfield Feb 13, 2013
@Jake slow your roll. AMG/Mercedes has produced quoite a few excellent handling cars including the aforementioned E63 which has beaten the BMW M3 & Porsche Carrera in head-to-head camparos.
Tyler Tarbox Feb 13, 2013
Okay you're lost if you think all AMG Mercs handle poorly. That's like saying all American cars can't handle either. The E63 handles superbly well.
Jake Dula Feb 13, 2013
For all the people choosing Koenigsegg over Aston because "all Astons look the same": Are you kidding me?! Every Koenigsegg ever made has looked EXACTLY the same as the first one. At least Aston Martin has evolved their design over time.
Jake Dula Feb 13, 2013
@Jason, I agree that the 458 is a very pretty car, but this is just gorgeous, the 458 cannot compete. Also, you have to remember that Astons aren't so much about sheer performance numbers as they are about overall quality and drivability (for lack of a better word). It's actually quite like their slogan when you think about it: Power, beauty, soul.
Jake Dula Feb 13, 2013
In what world does anything with AMG written on it handle well? If you even think about touching the steering wheel and pedal at the same time they just explode. It's excellent handling if you intend to come out of every corner backwards. If you wanna claim that AWD is the best setup for handling or that it somehow guarantees good handling, then fine, but that doesn't make it true.
Jean-Paul Grenade Feb 13, 2013
@jake - are you living in some kind of 90's time bubble? I take it you have never actually driven a current E63AMG or a C63AMG? These cars handle exceptionally well. And are at or near the top of their class for handling.
Zaire Wilkins Feb 13, 2013
Hmmm i hope this has an exhaust note similar to the RS3
Jake Dula Feb 13, 2013
AWD doesn't guarantee handling prowess, bro. The AMG badge on the other hand, does guarantee that this thing won't like corners.
Tyler Tarbox Feb 13, 2013
4.6 second 0-60 time?! That's crazy fast for a car like this. Heck that's as fast as a new Mustang GT or Camaro SS.
Frankie Ferreira Feb 13, 2013
It will, awd
Jake Dula Feb 13, 2013
As is customary with AMG, they've gone over the top... And then gone 50 miles past it. Well done Merc, I approve of your ridiculous creation. Shame it'll never corner properly.
Ryan Faber Feb 13, 2013
VV thats what I was thinking
Bala Uncc Feb 13, 2013
Wow. That's one fast 4 cylinder.
Tyler Wallace Feb 13, 2013
155 mph 👎
Nicholas Morissette Feb 13, 2013
I would give it a 5.5 litre twin turbo AMG V-8.
Nicholas Morissette Feb 13, 2013
No, it's a turbo, and don't call me Shirley.
David Gray Feb 13, 2013
Will do. Cheers
Dylan Bruder Feb 13, 2013
They're a newer idea when it comes to turbos pretty neat stuff look it up
James Heischman Feb 13, 2013
I'm not a big Mercedes fan but I can dig this!
Kris Scrase Feb 13, 2013
Nope definitely turbo
David Gray Feb 13, 2013
Twin scroll turbocharger? That's a new 1 on me........ Supercharger you mean surely?
Description: Naturally, AMG hasn't just tinkered with the engine and left it at that. The A45 is a complete package, with upgraded brakes to keep the power in check, 18-inch rolling stock (with available 19” ...

This hot! I wouldn't mind my sons driving this. I wouldn't mind giving it a twirl myself. This car will eventually come to the US if Mercedes sees a business case. This car won't help their CAFE problems.
Alex Klemstein Feb 13, 2013
COME ON!
Dylan Fredrickson Feb 13, 2013
Sick car, sucks it ain't coming stateside
Tyler Tarbox Feb 13, 2013
Now this is one car I am disappointed won't be coming here
Dan Chiu Feb 13, 2013
Bring the Hatch version to the states!
Luke Purdy Feb 13, 2013
Oh America, you seem to miss out on a lot of European cars
Jacob Burford Feb 13, 2013
Prefer the back to the front!
Tino Domingue Feb 13, 2013
VW polo has lights similar as well
Gray Conron Feb 13, 2013
Why does this and the M135i have to have those buggy tail lights?? It looks good but I'm not a fan of that.
Jack Howard Feb 13, 2013
Reminds me of an Impreza hatch
Luke Purdy Feb 13, 2013
Looks so good
Brandon Willis Feb 14, 2013
In the back.
Brandon Willis Feb 14, 2013
Nice Subaru WRX-STI
Brandon Willis Feb 14, 2013
Besides the Subaru WRX-STI hatchback.
Brandon Willis Feb 14, 2013
Probably THE only hatchback I like and want.
Cian Mac Gearailt Feb 13, 2013
Well the designer probably saw a leon on the way to work the day he drew it
Edmond Gebara Feb 13, 2013
You know, before I swiped over to the front of the car, I saw a glimpse of Seat Leon. Thoughts?
Stephen Tyler Learn Feb 13, 2013
Guys I think he is talking about the m135 not the 1m coupe
Gray Conron Feb 13, 2013
@Bala that is terrible that you would even compare the two
Cian Mac Gearailt Feb 13, 2013
Ohh my lord how could you say its better then a 1m
Jake Dula Feb 13, 2013
Personally, I think the whole thing is ugly.
Thomas Lepage Feb 13, 2013
Back is too plain compared to the rest of the car
Bala Uncc Feb 13, 2013
It's better than 1M
Lead Peddalin Feb 13, 2013
This isn't even close to the A3 in my opinion.
Sam Biggin Feb 13, 2013
Some normal allies would be nice
Edmond Gebara Feb 13, 2013
You know guys, I agree with you.. At the same time, I can imagine it being pretty decent in person... Maybe metallic black with gunmetal rims?
Austin Sullivan Feb 13, 2013
Yup, great front, terrible back.
Justin Barter Feb 13, 2013
I'll admit, my M135i has an ugly front...but this has an ugly back *feels better about himself*
Walter Alexander Thomas Feb 13, 2013
Remind me of a Kia or Subaru in the rear
Cian Mac Gearailt Feb 13, 2013
Maybe there will be a black some day
Mark Fei Ling Feb 13, 2013
Do they come with S version?
Jacob Burford Feb 13, 2013
Not sure about this! It is an AMG Merc, but it's easy to tell its the bottom of the line AMG!
Stephen Tyler Learn Feb 13, 2013
I don't understand having nav in a car. It's usually at least a 2000 dollar option and the average person needs it like 4 times a year. If you can't get to work and back without a map you shouldn't be driving Also all new phones have some sort of gps
Franklin Barfield Feb 13, 2013
Red accents trim on black leather/carbon is always nice combo. Maybe the Navi is removable and/or rotating. There has to be a reason. Curious...
Javier Fuentes Feb 13, 2013
Lovin the amg red seat belts
Johnny Matias Feb 13, 2013
VV Yeah I don't like the NAV layout. But otherwise I like it.
Johnny Hoover Feb 13, 2013
This thing is amazing
Ashton Summers Feb 13, 2013
Just don't like the nav. Sort of like they forgot to design the dash for a nav and added one at the last minute. Just nit picking.
Thai-Chau Ha Feb 13, 2013
So pretty to look at.
Edmond Gebara Feb 13, 2013
Solid
Narek Avayan Feb 18, 2013
Where are the AMG settings next to he gear though?? :(
Narek Avayan Feb 18, 2013
Very nice! I'm loving the new AMG gear, especially since its not downgraded from the 63 versions. The gear, the carbon, the steering wheel... Great stuff. Can't wait for the CLA 45.. I suspect it will be quite similar on the inside.
Aaron Sparks Feb 14, 2013
Gary I'm calling Homeland Security and having you deported. Traitorous terrorist.
Gary Lindsey Feb 13, 2013
Why don't they ever bring hot hatches to the US? I've got a Vette and I'd take this any day over that.
Mark Fei Ling Feb 13, 2013
Yeah! Love the shifter
Tifa Morsi Feb 13, 2013
Loving the AMG gear
Edmond Gebara Feb 13, 2013
Excellent
