Holden Reveals New VF Commodore V8 Supercar

Holden's new racecar arrives hot on the heels of its production counterpart while we wait for the Chevy SS version to arrive Stateside in showrooms and super-speedways.

Just days after releasing the freshly revised Commodore, Holden's racing team has returned with the new competition version. Set to compete against the Ford Falcon and Nissan Altima in Australia's V8 Supercars championship, the new VF Commodore racer complies with the series' latest Car of the Future formula. That means that it's built atop a chassis provided by the series, even though it looks like a roadgoing Commodore and packs a GM small block.

The engine in question is a 5.0-liter V8 tuned to about 650 horsepower, driving the rear wheels through a sequential transmission. Look for the new Commodore to begin testing in the first official session at Sydney Motorsport Park, with its race debut anticipated for the Clipsal 500 on March 3 in Adelaide.
