SsangYong Previews SIV-1 Concept

Lackluster Korean automaker tries once again to step up its design brief with a new concept crossover bound for Geneva.

There are some automakers that are driven by design, and some which are not. Given its oddly-shaped and often grotesque products, SsangYong isn't an automaker we'd place in the former category, but that doesn't mean it can't change. The Korean automaker - known (where it is known at all) primarily for its budget-oriented SUVs - keeps coming back to the major European auto shows with new concept crossovers, and has just released the first teaser renderings of its latest.

Called the SIV-1, the design incorporates sharp lines, a high belt-line for a low-profile greenhouse, and a tail end that seems to have been been lifted off an Alfa Romeo. All in all it looks like a step forward for SsangYong, but then few of its concepts ever seem to materialize into anything more tempting than its current lineup. We'll reserve final judgment, however, for when the show car is unveiled at the Geneva show next month.
