I actually think they work underwater, I mean, as if Merc hasn't thought of people like this guy.
It has those exploding bolts that shoot the doors off, but I'm not sure if they'd still work underwater.
Two questions come to mind: 1) How does that even happen? 2) How the hell did he get out? Bet those gull wing doors don't seem so great now

Mercedes wants you to not be able to open the doors if you're dumb enough to flip yourself upside down in a pond.
@ Luke. You can't just use the exploding door hinges, they are supposed to go automatically when you crash.

He obviously didn't listen to the salesman when he bought this car, he could of used the explosive hinges so the doors could come off so he could get out easier
They probably were not designed to be submerged. This jack ass shouldn't be allowed to drive anything other than a bicycle after this

Windows look small and with the side airbag deployed its no easy task to fit through there. Plus you're doing everything upside down while drowning.
It kinda looks like the hinges are popped, but not completely? Maybe it didn't fully work because of the water?
You can see the hinges blew up. But maybe due to the hinges being exposed to the water, they might of clogged and left the doors there
Something not right here. The hinge bolts shoulda popped to free passengers in a roll over.
The one window does look to be broken out too. And considering it flipped on its top, it doesn't look to horrible.
Holy shit, it's gotta be impossible to get out of there if the gullwing doors emergency discharges don't activate
@Shane Note that one door is disconnected from its hinges. It's connected at the bottom on its striker. Like everyone has already stated they probably didn't activate fully due to the water.
The SLS is equipped with a button that shoots the door right off of its hinges, providing easy access out of the vehicle if it flips over. The driver probably used it to get out.

@Thibault. You would think that is the case, but the SLS drives incredibly smooth and the power is hardly noticeable until you punch it.
