Audi Bringing A6 Sportback E-Tron to Frankfurt?

The next concept in Audi's electric series could include a new body-style for the A6 as well.

You remember when Porsche unveiled the Panamera Sport Turismo concept at the Paris show last year? It didn't just feature a potential wagon body-style for the four-door Porsche, it also packed a new hybrid powertrain, and previewed the styling of the next-generation Panamera. Now Audi seems to be taking a page out its sister-company's playbook with a new concept headed for the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Rumor has it that the German expo will include the unveiling of an Audi A6 Sportback E-Tron concept.

If you're wondering what might be new about that, the answer is two-fold. On the one hand, the concept is expected to pack a new electric engine configuration as the latest in a string of E-Tron concepts to follow the A1, A2, A3 and numerous R8-based electric prototypes. On the other, the concept will apparently also showcase a new body-style for the A6 range, supplementing the sedan and Avant wagon as well as the smaller A5 Sportback and A7 Sportback models already in production. We'll have to wait until the Frankfurt show draws closer to see how these reports manifest, so watch this space.
