Since some of the German cars are assembled in China and we are all aware of that, we check the VIN number before buying German car to insure they are manufactured and assembled in Germany. Audi VIN starts with WAU. Manufacturing standards are differ

Seriously, guys. The huge taxes are on Imported cars. Those Mercedes are made in China, so it's only 70k for a C300. And Chinese people don't drive trucks because they are considered farmer's car and they consume lots of fuel.
And our 911 has a respectable 67 litres, so which means we refill abt 50+ to 60 litres at the pump each time. It does exceed a hundred dollars, but not by much. Also, a audi tt costs more than a a7??? I dont even like the tt one bit (still looks like
And 75 litres for a fuel tank is big. The fuel tank capacity of our family car is only 50 litres+10 litres reserve, which means we probably refuel about 40 to 45 litres each time we go to the pump.
AMG edition?!! I can see why his costs $400k. He probably paid an extra $50k for that AMG edition, and even more for optional extras.
He has the E300 with AMG edition. He told me it cost around $400k. Sometimes the pricing doesn't make any sense here either. The Audi TT cost more than the A7 here by around 10k. 2 door cars are taxed more here.
That's a lot of taxes! It cost around $150 per tank. My car holds 75 liters. The regular fuel is just under $2 per liter and the premium fuel is around $2.30 per liter. Do your math and you can see the fuel cost is over $150 per tank.
And the COE(thats what the $65k to $75k tax is called) is based on engine size in cc( engine below 1600cc: abt $65k, above 1600 cc: abt $75k), but i'm not sure that applies to road tax, although it probably does.
And how did your fill up cost $150? Our fuel prices hover at abt SGD$2 and our fill ups never go past SGD$100, even in our 911 carrera gts.
$400k seems a bit too much for a e300, unless he ticked all the optional extras. A e300 should cost abt $300k here, $400k is base s class territory. Besides, a 911 costs abt $400k here, so it doesnt make sense for a e300 to cost abt$400k as well.
You guys have the engine taxes based on CC size every year like we do? How is the gas prices? Ours recently dropped below $2 per liter. Was happy to pay only $150 to fill up my car the other day.
Will, from what my friend tells me, who owns a small business there. His Benz E300 cost him almost $400k after all taxes and fees. My A6/C7 here cost around 80k after taxes but cost a bit over 330k where you are. I'm glad I don't live there...

@ tyler a lot actually. We still have traffic jams :) But cars here are considered as big ticket assets/property so people here spend a large part of their savings buying a car.

After reading about all the taxes, I'm glad to live In the USA. I could get a stock jeep gc SRT8 for $60,000 and then there is only 8% sales tax.
Ok...my bad, its not 150% or 110%, it's 100% of car value + another 20% of car value, which makes 120% of car value worth of tax paid for all cars sold here. And not forgetting the abt $65k to $75k of tax on top of it. Sorry for the conflicting info.
And about the 110% tax, its now been changed to 150%, so good luck buying a car here.
So if anyone dares call us a supercar haven...think again. It's the 1% of the 1% that owns these cars, since they're the only ones that can pay all the taxes.
Oh, and that doesn't mean we are excused from congestion charges. If you're unlucky you may end up paying us$4 in charges to get to work, and another us$4 to get back. Some pay even more.
To give an estimate, a base mercedes c200 will cost us$165k, and i dont even know if that includes the $75k tax.
on top of that, you pay abt another us$65k to us$75k, and that is before any road tax or emissions tax.
Basically, any car imported into singapore(which means all cars sold here, singapore does not make cars) are valuated, then charged a 110% tax of the value of each car.
U gotta remember things from here aren't cheap in china to begin with, plus they have crazy taxes for everything, plus u fotta remember import cost and shit like that stupid price but they will buy it
