McLaren Revises 12C GT3 for 2013


Updated McLaren 12C GT3 available to race teams and everyman alike for a cool half-million-dollars.
The 12C GT3 had a phenomenally successful debut season, taking 19 wins and a further 19 podium finishes in the 98 races 13 different McLaren GT teams took part in. Having only been made available to European-based GT teams in 2012, the updated 12C GT3 will be rolled out to teams around the world, and for the first time to collectors and those that want a competition McLaren but have no desire to race it. However, for that privilige they will need to have enough spare cash to cover the £325,000 asking price.

The 2013-spec model has received a series of revisions, including an updated aerodynamics package consisting of a front splitter, rear wing and front and rear diffusers, upgraded McLaren Electronics ECU with a revised electrical system, and alternative dampers. Existing owners will be offered these changes as a package. There's also an updated cooling system, evidenced by a new hood and updated ducting, to help the car compete in warmer climes, while the revised aero kit will make the racer better balanced. The 12C GT3 is powered by a race-prepped 3.8-liter twin-turbo capable of over 500 horsepower mated to a six-speed sequential motorsport transmission.
It comes with a new choice of shock absorbers for the double wishbone suspension, stopping power is provided by Akebono monoblock calipers with ventilated discs, and it rides on 18-inch forged aluminum alloys. Inside, there's an F1-developed McLaren GT steering wheel, digital dash display, and roll cage. The 2013 12C GT3 is eligible for all FIA GT3-based race series, and among the teams that will race the car is nine-time World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb whose team will run two examples.
