With meaner sound and looks - but no bump in power – the limited-edition Shelby Focus ST takes a bow at the Detroit Motor Show.
Described as the Shelby "pocket rocket" Omni GLH reborn, the tuned Focus ST is the latest Ford product to go under the knife at Shelby skunkworks. Introduced at this year's Detroit Auto Show, the Shelby Focus ST is yet to receive any engine modifications but enhanced performance is inevitable thanks to numerous Ford Racing suspension components, a Shelby/Bora exhaust with larger, circular outlets, new wheels and tires, and bigger brakes with cross-drilled rotors.
A custom Shelby interior includes a Shelby shifter, seat coverings reupholstered in exterior-color-matching leather and unique Shelby CSM badge, a number plaque that identifies the limited-edition Shelby ST. On the outside Shelby adds functional hood vents, hydro-carbon front and a rear grille inserts and rear spoiler that provides a faux-carbon-fiber finish and Shelby lettering. Customers will get a choice of three graphics packages, specifically "traditional" Shelby stripes, checkered flag splash, and competition. An optional performance tune is under development, which is expected to boost the 2.0-liter EcoBoost's output to over 300 horses.
Hydro-carbon components fitted under the hood that adds more carbon-fiber-looking graphics are, however, included in the "budget minded price." That's a cool $14,995 on top of the $23,700 your Ford dealer will charge for a base ST. Shelby is limiting the special edition ST to 500 models for 2013.
