Nissan Resonance Concept Hints at Next Murano

Japanese carmaker signals future crossover design direction with reveal of concept that will inspire next Murano.

Nissan has given us a glimpse at its future crossover design language with the reveal of the Resonance Concept at the Detroit Auto Show. Created by Nissan Design America in San Diego under the direction of chief creative officer Shiro Nakamura, the concept signals the direction of Nissan crossovers and more specifically what the next-gen Murano will look like. Edgy and aerodynamic, the exterior design is inspired by hypersonic travel with a "floating" roof, boomerang-shaped headlights and athletic appearance.

On show is a model finished in Flare Orange with a tinted acrylic grille and 22-inch aluminum alloys. The "VIP lounge" interior is the realization of what the designers imagined "the future of first-class space travel might be" with buttery leather seats, dramatic interior illumination, a floating instrument panel offering a holographic infotainment experience, and open glass roof. There's no word on what powertrain will feature in the next Murano, but the Resonance Concept Nissan is fitted with an all-wheel drive hybrid electric powertrain, consisting of a small internal combustion engine and an electric motor/lithium-ion battery. Nissan's next-gen Xtronic CVT sends the power to the wheels.
