Renault Twizy Gets Freddie Mercury's Moustache

Electric two-seater donated for AIDS fundraiser in Queen frontman's memory.

Something of a crossover between a car and a motor scooter, the Renault Twizy isn't everyone's cup of tea. In fact most of us would be embarrassed to be seen in one. But in all his flamboyant STYLE, Freddie Mercury probably would have embraced it. So maybe it's only fitting that this one-of-a-kind Twizy was outfitted for and donated to the late Queen frontman's charity. That foundation is the Mercury Phoenix Trust, a charity that raises money to combat AIDS.

Mercury himself was one of the earliest and most prominent celebrities claimed by the disease, having succumbed to it in 1991. A recent fundraiser event at The Savoy Hotel, called “Freddie For a Day”, saw the organization raise some £250,000 for the cause, helped along by the £7,000 raised by this unique Renault. The one-of-a-kind electric tandem two-seater was outfitted with a unique paintjob, complete with Freddie's trademark moustache, along with the optional scissor doors. This particular example, however, is not the one which the undisclosed buyer will take home, as he'll get to spec his out direct from the factory.
