2014 Acura RLX to Debut in LA

Honda CEO reveals that Acura’s flagship sedan will debut in production guise this November in LA.
Having unveiled a concept for a new flagship sedan at the New York Auto Show earlier this year, Acura will debut a production version of the RLX at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 28. Parent company Honda's CEO Takanobu Ito announced that the new sedan will come with a Precision All-Wheel Steer system, while an RLX Sport Hybrid model will be powered by an electrically-assisted version of the company's much-lauded SH-AWD (Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive) system.

An uprated version of this system will also be applied to the next-generation Acura NSX supercar, which is due late 2014, "to realize both a high level of sporty handling and fuel economy," The all-wheel-drive hybrid drivetrain utilizes three individual motors with a combined output of around 370 horsepower, the majority of which comes from a 3.5-liter naturally-aspirated V6 that powers the front wheels only. The concept RLX featured a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, but it's unknown whether this will be carried over to the production vehicle.
A 310hp front-drive variant will also be available, featuring the next-gen AcuraLink Communication system, new Jewel Eye LED headlights as well as a raft of high-tech safety systems. These include Lane Keep Assist, forward collision and lane departure warning and a collision mitigation braking system. The RLX will also get seven airbags, including one for the driver's knee. It's unclear when the Acura RLX will launch or for how much, but when it arrives it will endeavor to draw customers away from the Lexus GS, BMW 5 Series and Audi A6, to name just a few.
