Golf on the European market. After releasing initial details previously, the Japanese automaker has now revealed its all-new Auris ahead of its debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. The new hatchback you see here boasts not only improved styling and aerodynamics, but also a lower center of gravity for improved driving dynamics as well.
Toyota has sold 39 million C-Segment vehicles in over 140 countries since the introduction of the Corolla in 1966. The launch of the Auris Hybrid in 2010 made Toyota the first manufacturer to offer a choice of three powertrains in the segment, but the new Auris will feature a choice of five engines, including two gasoline units, two diesels and one hybrid. The gasoline engines include a 1.3-liter four with 98 horsepower and 94 pound-feet of torque, and a 1.6-liter Valvematic engine with 130hp and 118lb-ft of torque. Diesel models get a 1.4 with 89hp and 151lb-ft of torque or a 122hp 2.0-liter turbocharged unit.
The Auris Hybrid, meanwhile, combines a 1.8-liter VVT-I gasoline engine with an electric motor for a total output of 134hp and 105lb-ft of torque and a 1.2-mile pure-electric range while accelerating from 0-62 mph in just under 11 seconds and reaching a top speed of 112mph. Available in four distinct trim levels, the new Auris is distinguished by LED daytime running lights integrated into the sharper headlights, along with an angular split grille, trapezoidal lower intake, "Skyview" panoramic roof and a sportier-looking rear end. It will be offered with a choice of alloy wheels measuring from 15 to 17 inches.
Production of the 2013 Toyota Auris will take place at the Burnaston plant in Derbyshire, UK. While the outgoing Auris was sold in the US as the Matrix, however, the new model reportedly won't make the same transition.
