Fiat Upgrades Freemont with Park Avenue Edition

European-market Dodge Journey gets a new trim level and gasoline engine.

If you're looking at the Fiat Freemont and thinking, Gee, this looks an aweful lot like the Dodge Journey, you're absolutely right. That's because Fiat, which owns the bulk of the Chrysler group that makes the Journey, also rebadges the seven-seat crossover as the Freemont for European markets. And now it has released a new top-of-the-line model called the Park Avenue edition. Sitting atop the Fiat Freemont range, the Park Avenue trim level includes a number of luxury features bundled as standard.

Those include chrome trim, 19-inch wheels, heated leather seats, three-zone automatic climate control, GPS infotainment system and rearview camera, all bundled together as standard. Buyers can choose between two engines, both rated at 168 horsepower: a 2.0-liter MultiJet diesel and a new 2.4-liter gasoline engine, offered in the Freemont for the first time. Both are paired to a six-speed automatic transmission driving either the front wheels or all four, and will be available starting in the winter. Fiat reports that it has sold 39,000 Freemonts in Europe alone, and the new engine and new trim level ought to help Fiat sell even more.
