McLaren Gives MP4-12C A Nose-Job

McLaren Special Operations responds to demand for more aggressive styling for the MP4-12C with revised front end, revealed as promised at Windsor Castle during the Concours d'Elegance.

Just a few days ago we brought you reports that McLaren's Special Operations division was preparing to unveil a new face for the MP4-12C. The British racing team turned automaker has not only confirmed the availability, but was kind enough to send us a photo as well. The new color-coded front bumper is made of carbon fiber with a carbon-Kevlar lower lip. It includes revised vents and aerodynamic elements that replace the tire spoilers on the stock unit, and can either be ordered direct from the factory or retrofitted to existing cars.

The design of the new bumper, unveiled at the Windsor Castle Concours d'Elegance, blends elements from the 12C's original front end with those of the exclusive High Sport model, of which MSO only built five. As prodigious as its performance undoubtedly is, the McLaren MP4-12C has lost points in the supercar race due to what has commonly been deemed as derivative styling in that it doesn't stand out as much as it should from other cars of the same form. Whether the new front bumper helps in that department, however, is a matter of personal taste.
